The sheer number of erection and horny snake jokes I can make is astounding, why would shrapnel grow? Does nobody have some clippers that can cut metal?
I think it's supposed to be a hallizunation on your part. It gets said multiple times that the shrapnel presses on your optic nerves and Snake himself sometimes talks about how he's becoming a demon, so it makes sense that he would view himself this way if he does bad things.

i have noticed it as well that the horn is slowly getting bigger. i try to avoid killing as much as i can but there are moments were you dont care and just go on a killing spree. when im stealthy i kill only people i have no use for. since they wake up again and alert everyone which isnt really welcoming when you try to explore the base.

but great joke. even my wife had to laugh when i ballooned a sheep in to the air. just today i did it with this syberian bear. that look it had.
Hm? Why do you kill people when sneaking? If you just hide them somewhere were the enemies don't patrol then they don't get alarmed through sleeping guards and you have to be very slow to take long enough that they wake up on their own.
And you can research non-lethal assault rifles fairly early on, so there's no reason to kill even if you're discovered.
So you're not really trying THAT hard to avoid killing.
Well, that explains how THAT works. I did not know a MGS game would resort to having a morality system.

Hey, a strip that takes place within the game world that I actually understand, for once!

It's always a challenge to make video game comics that can set up their punchline properly for people who aren't already intimately familiar with the game, and do it without just opening with a character telling another what happens in the game (as Penny Arcade tends to fall back on like half the time). I already knew about the balloon thing the game lets you do, but I think I could have sussed it out from the diagram in the second panel if I hadn't.
I prefer it when Penny Arcade makes jokes with characters from which ever game they're writing about, so they put in some effort to be clever.

Really? I maxxed out on those Snake jokes years ago, I mean the main protagonist of the series is called Solid Snake... The third game is called Snake Eater for god's sake.

The shrapnel horn's growing is likely just in his head (Uh... Dammit, you know what I mean), if you max it out you also get covered in blood you can't wash off no matter how much you shower. Snake's grasp on reality is more than a little loose in this game...

It's Kojima we're talking about here. It's not outside the realm of possibility that Snake is literally becoming a one-horned demon.

Afaik MGS has had a morality system of sorts since mgs1, in a way, Mantis calls you out if you kill many people, and in games where it gives you a ranking at the end the only way to get the best rank is to non lethal the game.

I love it when games give you little appearance changes depending on how you act. I switched from a paragon in Mass Effect 1 to a renegade in Mass Effect 2 solely because the glowy face scars looked cool.
Do they try to rationalize it in Metal Gear by giving some half assed explanation about stress? I never bought that in ME2, why wouldn't a paragon be under just as much stress...

I think you missed my point.
the reason why I kill them is because they are no use to me on the base when their marks are all Ds or Es. and like I said; I want to explore the base in peace and in time. cant do that if everyone is looking for me just because that one guy I knocked out is awake and tells everyone.
You do realize that if you hold somebody up while they're on the ground or tell them to get on the ground they will stay that way until you either set a full alert or somebody notices them, right? A loading screen tip tells you as much.
My favourite technique for dealing with bases actually. Just dart/K.O./hold up/decoy toss them, put them somewhere sneaky, kick em once, and aim somewhere tender while they're whining. Admittedly it's all for naught if I hit a full alert since they all stand up and aim for MY tender bits, but it worked for PW and it works now.

I'm going to call that goat Jesus because he died for Big Boss's sins... except, unlike the actual Jesus, Big Boss's sins will never go away...

Other than that, that's what you get, helicopter! You puck-ass weak ************!

im totally new to the series and still not 100% familiar what i can do in this game. also cant work out how to throw them around either. if it displays the controls, it still displays the layout of the xbone controller. i also dont know how to roll on the floor with a mouse and keyboard. just showing me the thumbstick is not very helpful to me under my preference of control.
i did read most of the tips but this one about telling them to go down never came up. also, i dont really know how this works either. there were moments that some did hold up their hands but they never went down. instead they slowly went for their gun. so i was forced to grab them or shoot them.
but most of them time, even when i surprise them, they still shoot at me. even when i come from behind. some also dont even react when i draw the gun. regardless where i stand.

so if you or anyone can tell me how this works on pc, i gladly read about it. otherwise i enjoy the game the way i play. so what, i kill some people. big deal.

If you develops a nuclear weapon you are pretty much guarantee to max out the horn. Getting heroism points keeps the horn smaller.
