Non-Lethal Weapons

One such weapon i would like to have is a shotgun - that fires STICKY NETS! Non-lethal, and slows attacker to a screeching halt. It could probably be a good argument in one-on-one enconter. What could be more awesome?

OT: Police in the UK have so many restrictions on using their non-lethal weapons that there's no point in even getting them out. However from what I've seen on US cop programmes (God they're hilarious{British ones too actually}) American Cops get their guns out on principal...or am I wrong there?

if you're referring to 'COPS' I assure you those shows, while hilarious, are very BAD examples of proper police procedure. It's so bad that many cities/counties won't let them film in thier town (ours included) because many of the officers on the show act up/tough/stupid for the cameras and do things they normally wouldn't/shouldn't for the cameras.

We're trained that you only draw your weapon if you think the suspect is capable of using lethal force. You do not draw your sidearm unless you are prepared to use it, it is not for threatening people.

On that note: I was also shocked that the bobbies used old school wooden batons. Since in the states we all use ones made of Nylon or Stainless Steel. Interesting side note when i first started my career the department I was on just switched to a fiberglass composite baton and guess what? They shattered in to little pieces when it got cold.
Nice foresight the 'brass' had there.

I would TOTALLY use that if it exists. Anything that brings me closer to being like spider-man is a plus.

Every weapon is lethal, it is only the degree of which that changes.

But personally, I prefer running away first and foremost. Second, a taser if one is nearby (I don't own one myself, but I know how effective they are). Third, hand-to-hand and I'm fairly good at this. With training and experience in HtH, it is quite hard to land an unintentional death-blow. Of course, this requires getting close to the target, but if I can't run away as per above, then I'm likely already quite close.

So my 'non-lethal' weapon choices are in decending order: avoid combat, taser, controlled takedowns and/or crippling/incapacitating strikes in HtH.

sorry, here in England even non-lethal weapons seem to be strictly limited for police, which makes me feel rather unsafe.
having been on the recieving end of a home made taser though i know how effective they can be.. though the best in (hypothetically) non lethal weapons: the trusty baseball bat.
another that should be better implemented is the pistol whip - that way you carry both lethal and non lethal weaponry, or just shoot them in the the thigh, either way is good.

But seriously, I think tazers and police batons are quite good. Then again, I'm not in the professional peace-keeping business/public service line of work.

For me, as a civilian... I trust running away and my meager version of Kung Fu when running does not work.

In Britain policemen only wield non-lethal weapons. Yay! no scary people who could kill me if they want to! (I don't like guns in real life )

I haven't seen a cop with any kind of weapon on him for ages...

yes thats my approach, given my natural weakness if and when i get in a fight i like something heavy in my hand
tasers are very effective and batons sting like a *****..
i never run from a fight immediately, especially if mates are involved i'll never abandon them, if youre not a skilled fighter just kick them in the balls.. seems obvious but it works a treat

So earlier today I saw a handful of recruits with big black puffy eyes and runny noses. This can only mean one thing here at the sheriff?s department.
Non-Lethal weapon day!
My department currently uses a vast array of non-lethal weapons. To be allowed to carry them on your person or in your patrol vehicle you have to get them used on you. Since our Sheriff wants everyone to use pepper spray and a Taser we all have that done to us. We are also now implementing a tool that we call a ?Luke Light? though I?m not sure what it?s actually called.
It?s basically a flashlight that emits a green light that doesn?t actually light up the room so much as blind the person you point it at, it also really fucking hurts your eyes for a good 10 seconds. They?re very expensive though so only the SWAT guys get to have them (they get all the cool toys.)
I?m always very enthused by learning about non-lethal weapons. Having had to discharge my weapon in the line of duty a number of times (I was a vice officer it happens in that department) I am always interested in learning about new non-lethal weapons. My older brother is the head of the SWAT team on a different department and always lets me hear about these things,.
So, escapists thoughts on NLW? Do you know of any sweet devices out there? What's your favorite you've seen/heard about? Do you want one? Would you be willing to be subjected to one? What kind would you wield in a fight to the pain?

Why would you be required to fire your weapon repeatedly at hookers and johns?

Well, in Canada, the RCMP have guns, and tasers...


...well...as it turns out the taser is not as nonlethal as you'd think if used incorrectly.

That shotgun taser, is fires this cartridge that zaps the crap out of you from long range. I've always wanted to be hit with a taser to see what it feels like, incidentally I've always wanted to be struck by lightning too.

I think they're a great idea, and I do see them carried by coppers over here in England, which is great as only CO19 and specially trained officers can use guns, so its nice to see that the regular bobby has a bit of an equalizer.

The FN 303 is pretty cool. Its basically a more kick ass paintball gun

Well, in the UK the Police carry Pepper Spray and their Baton thing.

But a I was never more scared then when I saw the Armed Response land rover screeching up onto an estate near me.

They have 2 G36's and 2 Glocks in.

I held thier G36, but shhhhhh don't tell their supervisor. (On a visit to their station with Cadets.)At that moment I never felt safer

Why?

There afraid of causing the criminal to much discomfort and being sued by them, while the criminal gets away scot free.

It's been a long time since I visited the UK but, I thought they didn't even carry guns for the most part?
Though a cudgel can be pretty leathal I suppose.

Police in the UK do not carry guns. Only armed response teams do usually. Police equipment consists of Baton (extendable I think) and Handcuffs. Theres other stuff like radio and so on but thats about in in terms of weapons.
