I was listening to the radio, and I heard the newsreader announce that "the Pope has spoken on the value of silence", which seemed more than a little odd.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had heard any strange choices of words, or indeed non-nonsensical phrases used often in conversation. If so, please share...

I think that's less of a "non sequitur" and more "ironic".

For great non sequiturs, play Sam & Max: Hit the Road, that game had a built-in non sequitur dialogue option. Banana.

A few days back, while nostalgically playing Super Smash Bros Melee, one of my friends uttered the phrase "Hmm...Tastes like uterus."

It almost made sense, in context. But not quite.

yeah, I see what you did there, "banana". also, any chance your avy is from lucky star anime?

OT: yeah, it would be irony, as stated above, at least the generally excepted definition of irony.

My avatar is indeed Konata from Lucky Star :D Also, isn't the generally accepted definition of "irony" "anything I want it to be"? Or to quote Futurama's Robot Devil "How ironic! You, finding ME in the refrigerator!"
