Portal. Valves only game that has a price/quality ratio that makes it worth buying.

As much as I love portal, I have put so much time into Team Fortress 2 that I must vote for it.

I would defenitly say Half Life 2. Half Life 2 tells the brilliant story of humanity's fight against alien invaders led by Dr. Gordon Freemen and could not have possibly done a better job. The way HL2 immerses you in an uprising against alien oppressors with superior technology reminds me of the way Bioshock brilliantly immersed you in an underwater, philosophical adventure that was more an epic story than it was a video game, and that's what makes HL2 great as well. BTW can't wait for Ep 3!

Valve didn't make CS.
Umm yes they did.
It was a mod originally. VAlve just acquired it.
That's like saying Left 4 Dead isn't a VALVe game, because they accquired it.

VALVe hired the CS creators. Cliffe and Le became VALVe employees. Under VALVe CS and CSS continued to develop and evolve.

AND WHERE IS HALF-LIFE 1 ON THE POLL?
Yeah, but CS had a playable version before valve acquired it. L4D not so.
Yeah, but it wasn't complete. It didn't have all the official maps and models we have today.

First Half Life takes it by a small margin for me, over HL2. Playing that game the first time really opened me up tot he series, and honestly I don't know if I would have cared about Half Life 2 (which is an amazing game as well) nearly as much if I hadn't played the first one.

As amazing as Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 are, I think Valve's greatest triumph is Portal, it's sheer, undiluted brilliance.

I consider a game's ability to keep my attention indicative of its quality. I own every one of those games except DoD and Half Life, and I've played Half Life. I've played Team Fortress 2 the longest. No game has kept me playing it for the hundreds of hours that it has, except perhaps Oblivion. So, I think Team Fortress 2 is their best game.

Also, for those who said Portal was original, don't forget about Narbacular Drop [https://www.digipen.edu/fileadmin/website_data/gallery/game_websites/NarbacularDrop/].

Half-Life 1 for me. The other games may be technically better, but Half-Life+Opposing Force was all I played for like two years at one point, and the sheer amount of mods... definitely Valve's best to me, although that's not to disregard their more contemporary work: I'm a huge fan of Portal and Left 4 Dead as well.

TF2 is endless fun, Portal is awsome.

Half Life 2 was the start of a new generation.

Definitely Half Life 2. All of valve's games are quality but Half life 2 just went above and beyond alot of other shooters. Portal was a good game, the puzzles were fun and GlaDOS kept it interesting but it wasn't brilliant.

Portal
A game so great even Yahtzee couldn't hate on it.
Then Half-life
Then half-life 2

Then the multiplayer games as I prefer single player (the reason I'm playing X3 Terran Conflict)

Half-Life. It totally transformed the FPS genre, was the most important FPS after Quake, and also served as the platform for CS, Day of Defeat, Natural Selection, etc.

Valve eventually buying CS doesn't make it a Valve game any more than EA buying Westwood Studios made Tiberian Dawn an EA game.

LOL @ anyone voting TF2. It's not bad, but come on.
