Thought this might interest a few people, and I'd like to see what people's opinion's are of this. Basically, this is a modification that I've got a team together to work on - to see whether such a project could be done.

Firstly, heres the link to the ModDB page:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/northern-ireland-pathfinder

"The story begins in the ending months of 1983. Northern Ireland, and in particular County Armagh and County Down, have been wracked by recent attacks on the RUC, the Army, and the civilian populace. According to Intelligence reports, this is believed to be due to a recent split in the Provisional IRA, with the hardliners splitting from the main body, to form their own paramilitary organisation due to the recent appearance of PIRA bending more towards a peaceful solution, rather than one of violence.

The player takes on the role of 29 year old Sgt. John Casey, a member of the British Special Boat Squadron, the maritime equivalent of the SAS. The Player and an 8 man patrol have been dispatched to the province in an attempt to cripple the new splinter group, via tracking down and eliminating or capturing their leadership, before there are further attacks. The threat has to be eliminated, before it is too late. Failure is not an option."

Basically, the main idea was to feature as much as we could from the 83-84 period, in regards to media, style, and equipment, which is one of the main thing's we're looking for to make it seem more in-depth, and playable. We're making every attempt to make the mod as unbiased as possible, but at the same time, it has to be remembered that there were horrendous actions on both sides, and more so in regards to the paramilitaries on both the Loyalist, and Republican sides.

Something that surprised me was the fact that no games involving, or even mentioning the Troubles, had been done. Films, Music, Books, all of them done. Problem is, they're generally biased as hell, or from the Republican/Loyalist viewpoint - nothing about a typical British soldier's viewpoint, unless you're a fan of Andy McNab, or Chris Ryan. Something that is lacking in modern miltary/realism games is the feel of being in the forces - the dialogue, the jokes... it's lacking, or missing. Not to mention, the feel of the environment that you're in is of massive importance - something which we're trying to show with this bit of work. You could say that COD4 almost managed this quite well, in regards to the forces mentality, but not completely - but I digress.

Please, remember - we're trying to make this as unbiased as possible, and the end product will reflect that. Now, I'm betting quite a few of you think this is pretty much looking for publicity, right? Well, perhaps. But the main thing that I'm looking for is people's views on the subject.

So, views, thoughts....?

Hmm, just to reiterate, this isn't advertising, its just to see thoughts on the project. And perhaps a minor bump. :p
