Welcome to Northpoint, and welcome to the war brewing between numerous factions over control of the peninsula.
And now for what actually matters for your character.
If the Wall of TEXT above was too much then take #4, as it will ease you in the best.
So that's the background, I hope that SOMEBODY'S interested :/
FINALLY, the character template:
This RP will almost be entirely dependent on what you, the players, want to do. You can join the war if you want, or completely abandon it and focus on helping the survivors of Faction #4.
You can submit multiple characters of any faction, and could very well get into more than one, however if only 1 sheet has been submitted to a single faction, it most likely won't be covered.
Your character for numbers 1-3 is that you want to get a group of people together to see where the silvery monster that left the red blaze across the sky went to, while for #4 you should just put down everything but your motivation, since its most likely just getting the ship back up and running or at the very least contacting Earth again.
The starting location for #1 will be Frostfall, a large town at the foothills of the Skar Mountains (and near where the ship crrashed)
For #2 it will be Tiberia, the capital city, and while furthest away, Arcturian infrastructure means that your journey will probably allow you to gain ground fast.
For #3, you begin in Whiteshore, on the south-western most point of Iskarriak, while pretty far away from the crash, Iskans are opportunistic and the crash site is a short boat ride and a skip away.
P.S: I will be making a character for each starting faction and posting them later, its just
that I'm tired tonight, sorry.
Good luck with your submissions and I hopewe get a lot of them this RP can take off
Thousands of years before the events of Northpoint, Humanity was at the forefront of space exploration and was enjoying a golden age of wealth and prosperity.
Humanity had explored a small fraction of its galaxy, yet it owned a vast array of colonies and made contact with dozens of intelligent life forms. Some were more humanoid, while others were arguably not even forms of life.
Regardless, mankind was a major player in intersteller affairs, and without getting into too much detail the numerous species co-existed peacefully (as in to say, no race was at the brink of extinction at any given time).
Until the UHF Pathfinder discovered a star system that contained 2 planets that could sustain life, along with a further planet and 2 moons fit for terraforming. Until then most races agreed that the area surrounding their home systems could sustain them, however the positioning of this one (along with the fruitfulness of it) meant that EVERYONE wanted it. The 4-armed Mindorsi claimed it was within their sphere of influence, the Centillians, Orgrenins and several others, while other races claimed the system should be shared.
Humans claimed it on account of a human ship being the first to chart the system.
The strangest claim was from the Methane-sucking and balloon shaped Urro species, who believed it was their system as the star was part of a constellation of theirs when viewed from their home planet. Strange, because their home planet's atmosphere has a thick veil of cloud, meaning they wouldn't have constellations.
Eventually each race stopped caring what the others were saying and just started colonizing the planet simultaneously.
The second planet, Tetha, is the one that concerns us. Humanity were the first and largest colonizers of it, but most races managed to get some form of colony going on this planet, as its range of temperature was able to keep many of the species in their desired climate.
However this rapid colonization could not last, and when future escalation led to war, it was only a matter of time before one of the races unleashed a game-changer.
It is widely believed now that the Mindorsi homeworld was threatened, so its engineers emitted blasts of energy in strategic locations between systems, wherein enemy ships would be stranded.
This plan worked, however the blasts kept going further and further into space, and before they could stop it the Mindorsi had accidentally plunged the world into a dark age by disabling all sophisticated forms of technology and power.
Mankind survived, but it took thousands of years before it became space-faring again and is only now, in the year NA: 3473 re-establishing contact with surviving colonies.
This, is where we begin with Northpoint.

This, is where we begin with Northpoint.
And now for what actually matters for your character.
The People: The people of this world don't know about their history, as far as they are concerned most of their religions talk of divine intervention or something like that to explain their existance. The only ones that will know about their true history on this planet will be communities living in isolated pockets that somehow retained millenia- old knowledge, and even then its most likely warped somehow. The vast majority of citizens in this RP will be human, though there are a few minorities that I'll flesh out below, along with a kingdom of 'snow elves' in the far east.
The Landscape Northpoint, as in the peninsula, is about 40-50 kilometres wide at its longest, however the continent it is attached to is WAAAY bigger, and the southern part of it is unexplored by the known civilizations because of a huge desert.
Northpoint, and the Kingdom of Arcturius, are seperated from other lands firstly by a huge mountain range, and if that doesn't stop you, a desert of ice. So most of their knowledge of the Southerlands comes from explorer ships from the south.
In general, the Peninsula isn't a very hospitable area. Anyone living north of Icebane Bay will be relying primarily on fishing and hunting the wildlife (yeah, many of the races put down their own forms of life in these areas, as did humans, so for Northpoint Mammoths, sheep and dogs are among the native population. As are some types of trees and vegetation).
The climate will be very similar to that of Iceland/ Norway.
The Settlements In general the settlements are usually few and far between. Each town has some form of leader, usually an elder or a member of the most powerful family. There aren't any proper cities. The 3 biggest settlements are home to a respective faction.
Northpoint (the town) is basically Skyrim's Windhelm if it was bigger and was on the edge of a cliff.
Tiberia is, well, imagine Rome, if Rome as built in the middle of the Siberian wilderness.
And finally Whitehall is a trading hub so... this suits
Technology /Infrastructure: Any technology that isn't destroyed by time is highly regarded. It doesn't matter if it's a toothbrush or a plasma rifle, it is considered a holy relic, and being in possession of one of these can propel you into a leadership role. The current emperor of Tiberia managed to get an energy dagger working and he considers this a gift from the Gods, and uses it to justify the current conflict. This is a big deal because NOBODY knows how to use these machines bar the aforementioned pocket populations.
Beyond that, its standard medieval stuff. Swords are in use, as are maces and daggers, archery is coming into its own, but it isn't common as the wood needed for arrows would be better used for houses and for fires.
Naval warfare isn't much beyond 'Ram into enemy ship, hope for the best' and since Whitehall has the largest Navy its clear who'll win on that front.
As for infrastructure, Arcturius has a small network of roads for its holdings and they are tightly patrolled. Whitehall's lands are easier traversed via boat since most settlements are along the coastline. Northpoint, bar a few from the capital to other major towns, doesn't have roads. It's not that they couldn't afford them but there's no point in building one that far north if a blizzard can just bury it in 2 weeks anyway.
Economy: By and large a barter system. Some of the Arcturian towns use a coin currency known as 'Darions' but that's it.
Shops and the like exist but only what's needed. You'll only find a jeweller in one of the major cities, and even then it'd be part inn or something.
A significant portion of all the factions rely on hunting for a living. Because no matter who you are, a mammoth hide is useful, and the meat could keep you fed for weeks.

Sifting was caused by chemical warfare before the Great Devastation. It was meant to burn the victims skin, but those who recieved indirect contact from it could have side-effects. After Northpoint being cut off from civilization, these side-effects grew into new abilities, and, for lack of a better term, people could control things with their minds. At the time of the RP, everyone has this ability, they can just choose to ignore it.
It takes at least several years to be able to control it. Someone with no training is just normal, but if someone spends a decade mastering it, they can control things like water and ice.
The downside to Sifting is that it takes a long time to master and only in one specific field.
If someone wanted to they could spend 10 years becoming the best hands free book juggler, but its not exactly useful.
As such, the most popular forms of sifting are of what surrounds the people.
Water/ Ice sifting is very common for coastal peoples,
air sifting is less common, but good during wartime (death by asphyxiation Darth Vader style.)Ground sifting is..... useless due to the snow, Flame sifting is useful due to the cold climate, but if your supply of fire disappears you aren't left with anything, so normally flame sifters carry around torches and bits of flint.
Plant sifting is less well known, but it exists as a thing and is versatile.
In the first year of training to sift, the apprentice might be able to move, say a puddle of water for a moment. In 3 years he could create small waves in a pool and could turn the water to ice or snow at will. By year 4-5 depending on skill the apprentice is trained for combat with them, and by year 10 the student would be considered a master and be able to train an apprentice of his own.
The knowledge of sifting is held by the town's scholars, but it isn't uncommon for these teachings to just be passed down from family member to family member, neighbour to neighbour, in fact in more remote settlements this is all they have.

There will be 4 factions to choose from, and judging by the response the RP may begin in multiple locations:
Faction #4 - Survivors of the EAV Steadfast
The Earth Alliance Vessel is a scout ship looking to reconnect surviving human colonies from before the Great Devastation. They will crashland on the peninsula at the start of the RP and this is what will draw everyone together. The crew will be entirely human and will have relatively normal names. Their weapons will also be different. They have plasma guns that require no ammunition, also Sifting, to them is not something that required years of extensive training to attain (if you want).
Basically any future tech you want will go here, but basically for them I was aiming for a mix between Halo and Mass Effect level of technology. (So no Nuke pistols.)
Northpoint:
Capital: Northpoint
Leader: High king Jeruul. The first high king to be elected in centuries, and not universally liked.
Currently his war with Arcturius isn't going too well, since they have superior technology and battle tactics, but all the fighting now is on his soil, so he at least has the home advantage.
Northpoint is the biggest faction but also the least modern. As I said earlier each family would have at least one member going hunting or fishing for them and in the more remote settlements they live pretty much Inuit style.
Weaponry for them is a mix of sword and two- handed weaponry. Though Sifters are regarded as useful as well and Flame & Ice Sifters would be the most common.
If you want something akin to Skyrim meets Game of Thrones' The North, this is it.

Capital: Tiberius
Leader: Emperor Darion. He started the war in an attempt to unify the peninsula against the snow elves, which he considered a huge threat to human political dominance and his reign, so far he's winning but now the Legion has pushed into the mountainous areas where they most likely won't be able to sustain a land assault.
Arcturian holdings go from the Tiber river right down to the White cliffs and is focused on larger, more densely populated towns. They are also graced with lands sheltered from the harsh winters that are actually capable of growing crops in, but their diet consists largely of domesticated wildlife and fishing like everyone else.
Archery, swords, shields and spears will be these guys main use of weapons. Sifters are looked down upon as savage and the time required to perfect it isn't considered as a good investment.
These guys are Romans in the arctic pretty much, so if you're making a character with them, Roman names are appropriate.

Leader: The Council of 9. Representatives from each of the 9 great towns of Iskkariak (Whitehall's island) and the surrounding islands. The leading councilor is the Councilor of Whitehall, and she is Lady Hodda.
They are trying to keep out of the war for as long as possible. Trusting that their big fleet will push off any encroaching army. They also maintain friendly relations with the snow elves and so have a large population of them in their lands.
Their culture is pretty much that of rich vikings and their weapons are axes, spears and shields.
They, like the Northpointers, value Sifting as a combat tool, but, being primarily maritime, anyone that doesn't learn water/Ice sifting is pretty much wasting everybody's time.
So for building a character out of them. Rich vikings.

Human: These are the most common and pretty much run most of the government jobs for this. I assume that I don't need to go over this.
Telwa'a/Snow Elves: These guys are referred to as Snow elves because of the 'magic' in this universe. They can pick it up and perfect it faster than humans, and snow/ water manipulation is really their only option, because fire is too dangerous for them. Seriously, they encounter temperatures above 60*c and they begin to MELT. they don't even notice until an arm is gone. So a common method of execution is to just throw one into the fire.
They will be the largest non- human population in the RP and will most commonly be found in cities and towards the east.
As for appearance, they are about the same height as humans and, well let's use the Castithans as a pre-set:
Mindorsi / Vitruves: 4 armed, 7 foot tall, scaly, and red. You'll only find these guys in the wilderness and they've basically devolved to a sub-civilized status.

FINALLY, the character template:
Name: ____
Age: 1-100
Race: Human / Snow elf
Gender: M / F
Faction (#1, 2, 3 or 4)
Profession: This is more of a category than anything else. Inkeep, Noble, Bounty Hunter, Commoner, apprentice Sifter, etc.
Weaponry: Whatever your character may use for battle.
Appearance: This doesn't just include skin color, hair and clothing choices. You may want to describe how the character presents themselves whether it be sloppy or professional?
Personality/ Biography: What your life as been like up until your character's introduction. A good biography establishes and supports your character's motivations.
Notes: Any extra details you may want to add.
