Nose bleeds, why?

I don't know why they occur, but I do know they give me an excuse to shove massive tissues up each nostril.

I heard alternating weather and changing air pressure can also cause the capilliaries in the nose to rupture.

Sometimes when your nostrils are dry or just too open, i haven't gotten them lately but considering the weather isn't too hot that's normal i guess.

Well apparently I was born with a vein close to my nose so throughout my life I've gotten them a fair bit. I get them on plane flights, I get them if a ball flies at my face in a sport, I get them if I have a cold because of the continual nose-blowing, I once got one by trying out the tuba and sometimes they'll just start happening.

There's a lot of reasons, but mostly its going to be a mix of the generally weak lining in your nasal cavity (imagine if something like onions and vinegar could make your skin start to bleed via burst vessels) and the potentially over active sinuses.

high blood presure is the number one reason for random nose bleeds. especially overweight or rather small people, but also average guys can have too high blood presure. if it's that severe that it causes nosebleeds (assumed that it's the cause, of course) it can also damage your heart long term...so maybe see a doctor, just to be sure.

I get them constantly in the spring and I am never aware when they happen until someone points it out. My sinuses get really dry and infected this time of year it happens every bloody year so I have become used to it.

I'm gunna go with a combination of heat and dryness as the convector heater is right next to me and that heater has been on full blast eact time i've had a nosebleed.

No tumors hopefully.

Along side chewing my own gum I feel that surprise nose bleeds are the most bizarre and random thing that happens to my body.

My question is, why do we get nosebleeds (other than when you receive a blow to the nose/face)? And adding to this, how often do you get them?

This is my second nosebleed in 3 days and I've just been sitting at the pc!

I get nosebleeds a lot during winter becuase my nose gets so dry, and once i get one I usually get 3 or 4 more that week till it finally is able to heal up. So I think you'll be fine just get a humidifier.

Medical Response: Nosebleeds stem from a dryness in the nostrils, wherein the soft tissue is easy to break in a strain. Sniffing hard could scratch your nose enough to cause a little bleeding. This usually comes from dehydration.
Being at a location of high altitude or very low/very high pressure also plays havoc on your poor shnoz.
