So while visiting my local game store I saw a game I picked up a looooong time ago, beat, and sold. I decided to buy it again. I went home, popped it into the Wii/gamecube and started playing Star Fox adventures. Now about twenty minutes in I started feeling really anxious and sad. I kinda wanted to cry. I couldn't take this odd feeling that I had to get up and get away. It made my stomach really upset too. I haven't tried playing again and it's happened on a few games.

!Disscussion value!
Have you ever expirianced this? What games have you thought were awesome and then re-bought/rediscoverd later only to see them fall short?

Actually this does happen sometimes. Not as emotional as you described it, but a strange feeling with a hint of sadness where I just wish I could go back in time and experience the moment again.

NHL: Rock the Rink.

I still like it. It's good. But... not great. Not that hilarious memory-generator that this game once was. I got bored of the game fast and shelved it.

It got stolen not long later, though. That hurt.

Tales of Symphonia

I first played it back when I didn't pay any attention to video game stories. As a result, I really only knew this game for the combat. I liked the combat though, so I mistakenly thought it was a good game. Few years down the line, I think "hey, this was a good game. Long one to. Should keep me occupied for a while!".

Oh god why did I ever think this was good. The plot is some of the worst shit I've ever heard. The characters are all complete tossers, with personalities ranging from helpless moron to Saturday morning cartoon villain. You're guiding one group of idiots on a journey to kill an even bigger idiot, with sheer luck being the only thing that allows you to fix all of your fuck ups and eventually topple the big bad. All of this complemented with a heaping pile of shitty dialogue. Though much more minor, the dungeon design and puzzles layouts in that game were also crap.

The combat is still fun, but that's far from saving that trainwreck of the game.

Also Goldensun. I know a lot of people like this game, but how many of you have actually played it recently? It's not really bad, but it's painfully average. There's nothing special about it. The combat is mediocre, the characters are flat, the plot is basic, and the dungeon design isn't anything unique. I remembered it being a really fun and entertaining game, but I think that's only because it was one of my first RPG games.

It being an old game isn't an excuse either. I can still play Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga and enjoy that.

oh god, dont even get me started. if the game in question has a good deal of emotion, that just triplifies the impact. i was playing through crisis core the the other day, and when cloud finally showed his face, i had to put my psp down because i felt like my heart was stabbed through with a scimitar.

Sounds like the feelings I get when I play Diddy Kong Racing (amoung other n64 classics. And some NES ones as well). Too bad whenever someone sees me popping it in, they call me a manchild and tell me to fuck off. As they go off and play Call of Duty. Tossers.

Well, I do remember the first time I watched an episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show since I was a little kid. Instant waves of nostalgia on hearing the theme song, followed by waves of crushing disappointment once the show actually started. Having grown up in the 90's, most of my other childhood favorites have held up well, and are actually funnier now that I'm older and can get more of the jokes, but this one was really painful to go back and rewatch.

There was also the time that I tried to find episodes of Sonic: SatAM, found The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog instead, didn't realize there were two different series made around the same time, and felt the same crushing disappointment I did at the Mario Bros. cartoon. The silver lining in that one was when I found out that there were two shows, and eventually found some episodes of the right series; my nostalgia was justified.

for some reason I enjoy bad camera work in some games I remember playing conker's bad fur day and thinking "oh, awesome! it adds an extra layer of challenge when I have to position the camera every few seconds, this is how gaming used to be!" but other times bad controls will mess it up. like when I found my old copy of Gex 64, I popped it in and asked "I wonder why this series ever stopped." after about 15 minutes of playing I found out why, those controls were terrible.
for some reason I get a bad control vibe from super mario sunshine but not super mario 64.

Two words.

"Word Rescue".
An ancient Educational/Platforming game for DOS.

I used to think that game was the single greatest thing ever. I remember how much fun I used to have with it when I was a toddler. I also remember how I thought the "Gruzzles" were like the scariest thing EVER.

Anywho, I recently remembered playing this game, and after an hour or so of research, I finally re-discovered the name of it. I proceeded to download it (free shareware) and run DOSBox.

Holy cow is this game ever NOT fun. The worst part though was that I was EXTREMELY disappointed because of this T_T. I used to think it was so great! How could it be such a letdown...? *sadface*
