Lets face it - Nostalgia clouds judgement.
Is this so with critics and reviews? (Let's not jump the gun to Zelda: OoT). My main query is about films. If you'd look at a critics Top X number of films then - if you're an under educated 17-something year old like myself, 80% of said films chosen are from the Era of black and white. Dialogue heavy and still cameras aplenty, these films seem to survive attached to life-support.
Fuck it, let's pull the plug and watch Robert Rodriguez films.

My question is, what are your favourite films/games and does nostalgia play a very heavy factor?

I've never been a fan of nostalgia, the only reason I play old games is because I still enjoy them, I can't stand black and white films and, to top it off, a "retro" song on a night out normally kills my buzz. Like last night, damned Lava lounge.

Generally adaptions or sequels of games give me an ENORMOUS boost of nostalgia.
Especially when it comes to the Nintendo 64

One of the funniest, most disturbing movies around. I watch it every now and then, but it stays funny, even after you've watched it a hojillion times.

One of my favourite films is Evil Dead 2, mostly due to nostalgia, though when I was little it scared the crap out of me so now I watch for the humour.

As for me, I think the nostalgia factor is the primary reason I play emulated NES, SNES, and Genesis games...or why I occasionally pull out my genuine Sega Genesis and play some Ristar, Dynamite Headdy, or Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Actually, those are bad examples. Those games kick ass even without nostalgia.

I don't know. I want Heart Gold or Soul Silver because Gold and Silver were both really good games except for that whole inner battery thing. I don't think it's about nostalgia, more about actually enjoying those games.

for me they usualy take said nostalgia into a laboratory and mutilate it. Usualy fusing it with a water cannon or a wolf.

I don't think Nostalgia clouds judgment that much. Chrono Trigger is still considered a great RPG, by both new fans and old alike. Also, I love old movies, despite them coming out way before I was born.

Ironically, I'd have to say games like Quest for Glory, Nethack, and the likes. I've been recently discovering old games.

There is a different between your favorite movies and the greatest movies. The greatest movies are just movies that are very well made all the way around. Sometimes they are very long (Seven Samurai clocks in at over 200 minutes long, so it is close to four hours), or they are just not everyday movies (Citizen Cane is amazing, but I am not going to watch it on a Friday night with friends while drinking).

Your favorite movies are ones that you watch all the time. For me that would be Shaun of the Dead, Big Lebowski, Better off Dead or anything Quentin Tarantino (of course his movies easily fit into both catagories). Better off Dead will never end up on any critics top list.

Critics always put the first category into their top ten lists because they have to in order to look great. A critic would never have Undercover Brother on their top ten favorite movies, because that would just seem out of place. They go for quality of film making instead of just enjoyment factor.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with, many movies from the black and white era are horrible. The ones that got remembered were the ones that were amazing.
