I just had an epiphany... or however you spell it.

Why not bring out my old consoles and indulge myself in the highly addictive drug Nostalgia.

Rayman, Altered Beast, Final Fantasy VIII. The lot, but what I want to know, is if you have any games that you constantly replay due to good memories of it. Or Alternatively, why people shouldn't live in the past and should get up to date with their gaming library.

Epiphany. You are correct =3.

I LOVE Lucas Arts Outlaws... Such a timeless classic. I also enjoy playing Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam, and I've lost count of how many times I've played trough Star Fox 64 and Super Mario 64...

I am always an advocate of revisiting the past. Nostalgia is a great way to relive the glory days and/or remember to appreciate the positive changes in gaming through the years.

Last "old" game I played was Abe's Exoddus. I quite often go back to the older Final Fantasies (I am still yet to finish VI though) and I enjoy cracking out my Megadrive on occasions to play Sonic, Altered Beast or Golden Axe.

I'd like to replay the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle or Grim Fandango but I know what to do and they are more fun when experimenting with combinations of items....

Your post reminded me of the one problematic aspect of nostalgia, when games don't live up to your memories of them. I've found in many cases I can still have fun with a good old game but there are definitely some titles that I remember as being awesome but that just don't hold up today (like FFVII) or just plain suck (Altered Beast) when played today.

In my opinion it's one of the greatest puzzle-platfrom games of all time. So much so that when I finally finished Oddyssey and Exoddus for the umpteenth time over the summer - and having found out that Oddworld Inhabitants were getting back together to produce more games, I got their logo tattooed on my forearm.

Mindless trivia about fellow Escapists is fun.

I have the Mega Drive compilation for the PS3, and it was an amazing purchase. Feels good revisiting the games that took up my Saturday mornings when I was a kid.

Are you actually dissing the entire games library of one of the most popular consoles ever made?

I recently got that sonic classic collection for the DS a while back (Start of summer I think)

Makes me remember the times spent playing on sonic 2, my brother's copy of sonic 1 breaking all the time, and the fact that I never completed sonic 3 before, bloody Carnival night zone.

I have Diablo, Daggerfall (TES2 for those who don't know), Age of Wonders, Heroes of might and magic 1, Max Payne and Warlords installed on this PC which I frequently play... but if you want to talk nostalgia I have some double dragons and dune cartridges for sega genesis lying around (gave away the NES along with all the cartridges when we moved).

I can think of a lot of older games I would like to play again, chances are I will just think about playing them and not doing actually anything. I'm not sure if some of my consoles are still working, well for the N64 it's just the controllers (blast you Mario Party, why did I borrow you?).

I live more of my nostalgia with the virtual console and some X-box live arcade (banjo-kazooie and tooie). There is one game though, that I will most likely play again, DK64, I never actually owned it, so my N64 lacks the big red thing that enabled you to play it. So I can't play it on my old console, and it's not likely to come out as a remake on anything due to copyrights I guess.

I do like to go back and replay Legend of Zelda, Mario 3, and the Megamans. And then there's Tankwars, Heroes of Might and Magic, Might and Magic 6, and Master of Magic. Anything past the mid-90's feels too new to be properly nostalgic.

I had an amusing experience playing the HD Serious Sam. It was exactly as I remembered it... and it wasn't until I sought out screenshots of the original version did I realize how much they had improved the graphics.

Amazing how the memory can lie its ass off like that.
