Yo, whats up? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNo2O6eNC24]
Anyway, I figure it might be good to take a short stroll down nostalgia lane and reflect on some of the more obscure games we played in the past, good and bad. Try to keep from mentioning strange games only from Japan like Obscuro Importo III that only you have played. Lets try to get some discussion going, not a game rarity cock measuring competition. Don't mention games that everyone has played either, not much point in talking about those.
Without further ado here are two games that were a big part of me growing up. They might be known, maybe, but they don't seemed to be mentioned much so whatever.
GunValkyrie:This game handled like a piece of shit but I think that was part of the charm it had. You could boost and float using the left analogue stick and trigger and there were parts when you had to pull of a large number of combs to stay afloat and clear the area. The environments never get stale and a grading system encourages you to go back and improve your skill. The difficulty curve was horrible though and represented quite well in game by a massive cliff you have to get over. In a way it is a platformer but it always felt more like a fighting game, the way you pull off combos and such. The alternate history, steampunk, cyberpunk setting is pretty good and the story is alright, so if you don't mind fighting against a control scheme that will probably make you it's *****, in a good way, I'd recommend looking out for this game.
Blinx: The Time Sweeper: So there are these cats, right, that make and distribute time to multiple worlds. When glitches in time occur, those glitches become crystals which are swept up by sweepers before they can become monsters. Got that? Good. So everything is going well until world B1Q64 is invaded by the Tom-Tom gang, a group of pigs, that steal time and sell it to other worlds. B1Q64 starts to go critical and everyone is ordered to leave, but our hero, Blinx, who has fallen in love with the princess of B1Q64 jumps into save her, and the game starts.
Blinx has alot of similarities with Prince of Persia. As you go along you find time crystals, either from killing enemies or just left on the ground and these can be used to control time. You can fast forward, pause, rewind, record and slow down. You have to use these to get past a variety of puzzles and monsters. Overall a good game. If you're looking for a break from gunmetal themed games, check this one out. I mean, you attack by sweeping up garbage and throwing it back at the bad guys, it's great. One fault is that every level can be skipped by pressing a single button and the game can be beaten in a minute. It's probably the cheapest cheat that I've ever seen in a game, but whats worse is that the final boss(es) is so freaking hard that you probably have to make use of it.
So Escapist, do you have any games that you want to share?
