So recently nostalgia grabbed me and forced me to hunt down a show from my childhood. I did so with a certain degree of doubt and fear that this past glory may turn out to be a pile of shit as a lot of my past loves have been. thankfully instead of the nutkick down memory lane I was expecting the Show in question was just as glorious as I had recalled.

As a result I thought I would reach out and ask the escapists which Items/shows/games from their pasts Still stood tall and brilliant as ever perhaps even better given your new understanding of them and which had shrivelled into unrecognisable husks of their remembered selves?

I'll begin with my former love the 1992 series Truckers adapted from Terry Pratchett's novel of the same name
I am today a huge Pratchett fan but when I first saw this series I had never heard of him and it would be another 5 years before I would so much as glance at one of his books, so to 8 year old me this was just a very good show I happened to enjoy a LOT. Today 20 years later and an avid Pratchett reader I had every reason to fear returning to this well. Other animated series had not held up as far as enjoyment went looking back at some other devotions of my youth including astroboy and Robotech which now were painful to watch. Add to that I am now an avid fanboy and if there is one type you will never please it is a fanboy. Your creation shall never exactly match their inner vision of a world and so you will never appease them.

All that said my only complaint about this series is that they never followed through with truckers or wings, or that they never gave it (to my current knowledge) a proper DVD release. Any cuts went unnoticed the characters were well Voice acted and the animation is some of the best of its style I have ever seen sure it may not be as realistic as shrek or donkey but it didn't need to be they got the important stuff right they never forgot scale they made it quite clear how it must seem to be such a tiny person in such a massive world. Whats more the humor was even better as a child I laughed at how silly the gnomes were for building a religion around a shop, as an Adult I laughed at how pathetically human this same act was all the humor was still there just from a different angle.

well thats happy memories gone time for the shite. Yeah my older self offers no excuses for little me on this one there is and can never be any forgiveness for it.

So heres the deal on this one my parents never let me watch anything remotely violent which of cause made this a taboo which in turn made it irresistable especially when every other kid at school was into themso whenever my folks were out of the house at the right time I would sneak into the lounge room and watch either this or the other great taboo "monkey magic" as a kid this was glorious and then forgotten a few months back I'm channel flipping and catch the new one something to do with samurai and I think to myself wow this has really gone downhill so since the old nostalgia had started bubbling in me I went to remind myself what a good series was. OH THE HORROR. Not only was it not as good as the new one it was worse for all the great memories it failed to live up to bad humor really bad acting and they always finish every enemy off with that exact same sparkle sword move which if they had just bust out from the word go could of done the job easily.

-edit - replace over with other whoops
Well I think I'm about done shaming myself in public your turn
