Not able to play games through twice?

I don't know if I have some problem, but I just can't get myself to play through a game twice. When I finish it once, the magic is gone. It doesn't matter how repayable it is or how many story branches it has, when I'm done, I just can't go back. I've tried many times, but I never get much further than the first level. In games like Skyrim I dread the final story missions, because I know I will never be able to play further on in it again. This is why DLC is dead to me.

Am I alone in this? Or are there others in the single play through club?

There have only been a couple of titles in recent memory I was able to play through twice and then some. Dragon's Dogma.....5 times. Tales of Vesperia twice. Resonance of Fate twice. When I was a kid I could play through a game 100 times and still not be bored. That was in the 80's though. Different gaming generation back then.
You just reminded me I have DD in the cupboard!
I really should get back into, love it. It's just infuriating at times.

Same , i rarely can play a game twice . And ever rarer play a game twice back to back . The last game i did that with is Alpha protocol , and it surprised the hell outta me AND my gf . It's been a good decade since i played a game twice back to back . I do however replay classics every once in a while . My favorite being FF6 which i play once every 2 years . Best game ever .

I almost always replay games. Mostly because I can't go out and buy another game just because I finished one.

Eh... with me, depends on the gameplay type. With linear FPS's, I'll play them once then chuck 'em. With any other type of game, once I've finished it, you can bet I'll replay it. It just needs to hold me long enough for me to finish it is all...

Well, recently: Dark Souls: New Game +++++ or something along the lines. Just killed Seath twice today...
And Vanquish, played through that quite often.
And Resi Evil 4.

I usually replay games eventually. Usually.

I'd have liked to replay the campaign in Diablo 3 because while the story was crap some of the set pieces were great and the gameplay itself was quite fun. But if I want to replay the game I have to do it on boring ass easy mode all over again. Whatever idiot at Blizzard thought it was a good idea to force players to have to earn higher difficulties on each. individual. character. is a goddamned idiot and should have been smacked across the face for thinking up such a stupid idea.

I'm not replaying the game on easy again, it was boring. I want to try out a different class on a higher difficulty! Is that so unreasonable? Seriously, what the hell was Blizzard even thinking?

Same here...

I do play a lot of games where you can't complete them easily though (Gran Turismo, Fifa, Forza etc) But with more traditional games I've actually bothered to complete I can't think of anything that actually amazed me so much that I wanted to replay it. Apart from Pokemon Blue and Gold though of course!

It seems like people who can't play through games again get a lot less bang for their buck with new games.

You're better than most people. Most people never finish any games EVER and really, it's nothing out of the ordinary. I rarely play through games more than once save for a couple of my absolute favorites like Assassin's Creed 2 or Chrono Trigger for the thousandth time.

This is rarely the case for me. Most games that I enjoyed throughout will make me want to play them again. There have been a few exceptions to this (GTAIV, Portal 2 and Arkham City) but there are way more games I replay than ones I don't.

The only series I've been able to play through twice without it feeling like work is Infamous 1,2.

There are some games that have no replay value, but I've found that a lot of the games I own, I play quite a lot, even if the story doesn't change depending on choices or something because they are just so much fun to play

I feel as though time goes on I have this problem myself. I feel like the games that i do enjoy replaying through (Serious Sam games, Zelda games, Mario games, etc.) are fairly simplistic in their design. While complex games are great, and hell, its 2012, i dont expect games to remain simple, I cant help but shake the feeling that more complex games just dont capture that certain magic that simple games can. And its not because games are just "modern" and I dont like new games; i've played through Serious Sam 3 about 5 times now, and didnt release just how much i had played it until i noticed Steam counted 80+ hours on it. Jesus.

But yah, this is why lately i'll only buy a game if it's at least going to give me somewhere around 20 hours of gameplay. I just cant afford to buy games that will last 10 hours or so and then just never play them again. Also, i think shorter games in general just aren't as enticing to go through again, and considering a great deal of games are pretty short nowadays...

Pretty much this.

I don't think i've got a single game that i've bought in the past ten years that I haven't played through at least twice.

Ive developed into a narrative centric gamer over the years. VERY few games can I play more than once, once I have completed them. Ill occasionally play FF1, FF3, Xenogears over, but for honest to god replays, its rare.

I think I would likely be able to do it with either of the Souls games, given that its not all that narrative centric, but the gameplay is that visceral.

I generally play everything through at least 2 times. Once for the challenge without any assistance and second on the hardest setting with a walkthrough for the remaining achievements. The only time i play them once is when i can play the hardest setting first time.

I very rarely don't get to the end of a game and usually it's because the game has nothing good to offer me (operation racoon city and dark souls are my most recent examples). If your finding this with a lot of games then maybe it's time to find a hobby you enjoy.
