So wil wheaten reblogged a thing on his tumblr agreeing with this post:

So, yeah, that first image is from a European Sony ad and I don?t know about you BUT IT CREEPS ME OUT. Ignoring the skeevy implications (woman?s body is a plaything for men, etc) it?s also just CREEPY AS HELL. Like ?this is actually the new Silent Hill design? creepy.

So I decided to make it SUPER RIDICULOUS. If more boobs = OMG SEXIER OBVIOUSLY, then mine must be HELEN OF TROY LEVELS OF THE PERFECT WOMAN, RIGHT?! Line up, fellas!

and im confused..

Is it just me or did she just completely not get the joke? Or am i just not getting the joke? I mean objectified woman is bad and shame on sony blah blah blah, but like does anyone actually take away from this "shes more attractive because she has more boobs"?

16 visible tits? 10/10, would bang. :p

In all seriousness I think it's an overreaction. The ad isn't trying to make any kind of statement about female body image. It's just a play on words. While that design in certain contexts could be very creepy indeed, I don't find it so in this one. As for said "skeevy implications"... well, boobs are awesome, there's no point in me trying to deny that.

Ugh, that ad is repugnant. Cue, of course, the legions of denialists saying there's nothing wrong with the ad and people are overreacting and hypersensitive and so on and so forth.

Like that. Thank you, kind sir, right on cue.

Hell, if we're going with that logic, just have the PS VITA come with a free pair >.>

It's stupid, but nothing worth burning down Sony HQ

That thing looks like a spawn from hell. What a hideous creature. No, no. Two breasts are more than enough for me, and even then, I prefer them smaller. Not a "big tittie" fan at all.

I didn't say that there's "nothing wrong with the ad". Nor did I say anyone who thinks that there is a problem with the ad is "hypersensitive". While I'm at it, my use of the word "overreaction" was only in reference to Will Wheton's personal response to the ad (not just the offense taken at the objectification side of it, but also in terms of how much the image apparently creeps him out), not that everyone with any kind of problem towards this ad is "overreacting".

I am perfectly capable of forming my own words. There's no need for you to go putting any more in my mouth.

I see how offense might be taken. I just personally don't think it's offensive. It's not trying to say 'MOAR BOOBS FOR BETTER EVERYTHING!', but rather. 'We want to promote the touch capability of the PS Vita. Many people (let's not beat around the bush here) like to touch breasts. Therefore, the potential for a punchline is there.'

Is it a particularly clever punchline? Not really, but then it's an ad, I'm not expecting Class-A comedy. Is it particularly funny? Well, I didn't laugh out loud, so I guess not. But, as far as adverts with the potential to cause offense go, this is pretty tame by Sony standards to be honest. It certainly has nothing on this...

No, I don't understand it like that either. Unless by "enjoyment", they actually mean "from viewing it" but I highly doubt that, considering that sentence starts with "touch".

...and funnily ITT responses that don't actually follow what OP asked.

We shouldn't stop complaining (when we have valid reasons for doing so) because there's been worse out there. That ad is terrible and sickens me, but this one has plenty to criticise too.

I kinda get the feeling that even those who'd get turned on by the idea of multiple breasts would most likely be more than a little freaked in practice if they happened to stumble upon something like that. Brains, weird things, I tell you.

As for the ad? It made me go "Oh come the fuck on, I heard a joke on that note like twelve years ago and it wasn't funny then, either".

And as always, my intellect is offended when anything is getting sold via being sexualized.

Again, I'm not saying that there isn't stuff to critisise (the quantity of boobs is less of an issue for me than, say, he face being entirely cut out of the picture). However, what I am saying is that when we complain, we should complian in proportion to what there actually is to complain about. I see no reason to claim that this advert is seriously promoting Janus-Boobs as a healthy female body image, so I don't think that we should be complaining that it is.

I'm not complaining about that, since I doubt this is aimed at women (given that most of them are straight and have no interest in touching breasts). I'm complaining about the one-sided sexualisation and the lack of egalitarianism. Why couldn't have we had two sets of ads, one like this and a male equivalent? Because the industry keeps thinking that only its straight male demographic matters, and then wonders why women and non-straight men aren't that much into gaming.
