McDonald's have been adding new healthy foods and adding healthy options (for Australia at least), Do you agree with me and would say that they are being corporate whores and are only adding the foods to entice and make money from people, or do you tend to think that they are doing it because they want to be a pleasant family restaurant?. Please share your ideas. Any thinking towards the topic is acceptable.

they want to be a pleasant family restaurant to entice and make more money from people. And the healthy options aren't that much better I can't Imagine...

They're widening their products, they've been doing salads and carrot sticks here in the UK for ages now, also sub like sammiches.

Just appealing to a wider audience I guess, none of the other fast foodies around where I live would be considered healthy and McDonalds are the only place who do salads as far as I'm aware... Subway are pretty good though with the whole salad thing.. I wouldn't consider McDonalds to be healthy though.

It's all about the dollar and popular demand, otherwise they would give food out for free. People want "healthy" food, we'll give it to you for a price.

I'd say both. They want more money, so make the place enticing for more people. I imagine more money is made with a family buying than just one or two people. It helps towards making McD's look less like a dirty whore (sort of). I can't see any negatives from this.

I guess you make a good point, Do you think that maybe McDonald's are competing with Subway instead of the other really unhealthy options, most people prefer Subway or a healthy alternative over most common take-away restaurants these days.

So you're implying that they're doing something out of the ordinary to try and increase their customer base, improve their image, and generally sell more food to more people for more profit? It's a company. A company being out for profit isn't being a corporate whore any more than any other organisation doing exactly the same thing.

This is getting on my very first and very last nerve.

Yes, everything they do, they do to make money.
This is true for every company.
Sorry MaxTheReaper, Its just that even though every company wants to make alot of money and be qquite successful, I couldn't help wonder if they where trying to be the "good guys" and the company that does help with the overweight people (I'm one of them, I don't like fatty foods, just hate exercise). Actually, I hardly know where I am going with this now...I am just trying to say, 'have they changed for the 'good' and trying to help people with there choices or making profit and only looking at one side of this and being terribly greedy'

Local Chinese Takeaway > Subway > KFC > Burger King > McDonalds in my opinion. Subway is good value for money, you get to choose what crap you want in your sub, and which bread unlike other chains.

What do you get to choose from McDonalds? Whether you wanna be a fatty for the day or just a little bit :p Same with Burger King, but Burger King do proper big meals when you order a large, with McDonalds it's a few extra chips and a massive drink.

Ok, so my Chinese isn't local, but it's the best Chinese in the area! But because of how bad they are for you it's a once every 6 months for them :D

Is this some sort of essay question? The way you wrote it seems like you've been set this as homework xD

It's the profit side, plus it helps their PR image if people see them as trying to 'help' overweight people who obviously can't exercise enough self-restraint to stop chowing down on Big Macs by offering an alternative that they aren't going to take. It's always about the profit and painting a good image.

I think that they were asked by the courts to provide healthier options after the whole `Mc Libel case`

But after so much controversy, I think Macdonland wants to give that `we care about our customers` image.

They are not doing so well it seems. There are an awful not of calories in their salads

But who goes out to eat a salad anyway?

Well McDonald's IS a profit organisation, after all. It only makes sense they'd promote 'healthy options' after that Supersize Me documentary.
