Not What, but Why

So something occurred to me when it was asked me, someone asked me WHY I thought something was good, and I was almost at a loss for words.

So take a game you love, you're favorite game, or a game you found fun even, and tell everyone WHY you liked it. Was it because you could replay it over, was it controls, the story, that one single moment of sheer win? Whatever it is, tell it.

hmm well for shooters, ill pick gears of war 1, its the one game i have kept, for as long as i have had it, compared to any other game

Reasons:

1) third person shooters with cover, i love having peripheral vision and being able to see where my body, and i love this aspect of cover and shoot, some people bash on it but honestly i love it alot, on insane mode it can get pretty intense in some parts

2) Campaign was honestly alot of fun for me, i think for a shooter it has a decent story and setup, along with a nice goal, it throws a few twists in here and there, to keep you guessing, which not too many shooters do, usually its *guy pops out* *you shoot guy with twitch reflex* *move on*

3) Co-op on this game was quite possibly the funnest co op i have ever played, i easily played the co op campaign with friends a good 80-100 times, as its all just good fun

4) Assault rifles + chainsaws....pretty fucking awesome? on multiplayer its spammed and all but man its awesome to sneak around some cover and chop someone in half

5) the characters were pretty likeable to me, marcus comes out of nowhere sure, but cole train and baird are freaking awesome, love that train and baird's smartass sense of humor, they have some good lines here and there that make them pretty fun to have for A.I. team members

My "A Drug That Makes You Dream" review has seen a lot of exposure these days, so I'll pull something from my lesser-known (and probably worse-written, but still) review of <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163769-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Kanon>Kanon.

What did I think of Kanon? I liked it a lot. The characters were very fun, the technical quality was all right, and the story managed to be both tearjerking and heartwarming with equal deftness. Even the one route that confused me managed to provoke a strong emotional response, and another had me crying myself to sleep one night (the next day) and distracted for a while after that; ask any of the Visual Novels group members, I was near-inconsolable for a week. I still can't listen to "Plain of Frozen Snow," and "Sea of Mist" is almost as uncomfortable after-

Um...

*cough*

Anyway, yes, I'd daresay this game is a gem (considering the characters' eyes, probably an opal), and I certainly look forward to Key's other works.

Hitman...it was serious and it challenged your mind on how to not only infiltrate an enemy stronghold but also disguise yourself, kill the bad guy, and leave without anyone even knowing what the fuck was going on.

Kotor.

I really liked the story, and on my first playthrough when I got to the plot twist I was astonished and excited at the same time.
The gameplay was pretty good, it was basically turnbased, but you never would have guessed by watching it.
The characters are what I love the most about Kotor. All of the characters I liked and a few of them I grew to love. For example HK-47 and Jolee Bindo. Both, I thought were amazing characters, HK-47 for his meatbag humor and Jolee Bindo was awesome because he was basically a grey jedi, he had no ties to the council and he didn't care.

KotOR:
1. The customization options for every character is incredibly immense.
2. There are tons of mods. Enough to get over 40 playthroughs out of me.
3. The combat, albeit clunky, is easy to use once you get the hang of it, and the micromanagement inside each battle is interesting and fun.
4. You become a jedi.
5. Some of the puzzles were fairly interesting, and provided a bit of a challenge.
6. It also has a super awesome story, with multiple routes.
7. The character differentiation was also fantastic. Based on how you liked to handle things, you could have a party of careless badasses, or you could have a part of do-gooders trying to help anyone they can. The moral system allowed you to bend your character and party however you wanted.

Choices, choices...
Fallout 3: It's an open world game like many others, but it's environment, it's atmosphere, locations, everything about the place itself is what makes the game. You're in a destroyed, lawless wasteland with no plant life, deadly water and food and where everywants to kill you and yet the world is so alive with interesting NPCs to talk to, fight, and fight alongside with and sooo many interesting side missions which vary and always keep things feeling fresh. It just doesn't get dull until you've done EVERYTHING the game has to offer

Golden Sun. I love it because I played it at a young age and then role-played about it with a friend. A year ago I played it again, and it not only lived up to m expectations but exceeded them. I love the characters, the setting, everything.

If you can't tell, I'm psyched for Golden Sun DS.

you are both very wise indeed, im assuming your wisdom is at least at 16, while charisma is 17 or 18 for your persuasive skills

Kingdom Hearts, Mostly the second one.

Why?

1)A simple rpg with real time combat.
2)A storyline that's light hearted and simple yet if you break the crust you see a deeper plot at work.
3)A stat system that's simple and efficient. Fun characters if you like Disney (I thoroughly enjoy being a part of some of my favorite kids movies storylines). A majority of fun worlds, many with subtle to major differences
4)The fact that despite being easy to learn, Impossible mode in KH1 was just that, impossible. Anyone who tried to beat Malificent on hard mode can back me up on that. You can't out level bosses and you need a measure of strategy and timing to beat most bosses.
5)Companions that backed you up by complementing your play style (Goofy would knock enemies into Soras combo range and Donald would lay down support fire to keep you from getting overwhelmed and both would disrupt powerful attacks) instead of just trying to deal damage.
6)In the second game the gummi ship minigame was actually a badass fast paced shooter with tons of custom options. I built an incredibly powerful gun ship.
7)The fact its one of few RPGs I have actually cleared multiple times.
8)Its one of few games where I am eagerly awaiting the sequels. First KH2 and now KH3 i just can't wait to play.
