Notch Pumping Air Into Minecraft's Sky Dimension

Looks like someone's taken a look at Terraria's floating islands, and thought "I like the look of those..."

Having played terraria exclusively for the past week since release, I have to say I agree 100%. Terraria not only has the polish, but more content then you can wave a stick at. And it's the main thing that's lacking in Minecraft.

Anyone wanna build Zeal already? It's been begging to be built.

OH MY GOD YES. But we'd need portals to go from wintrywonderland to zeal. anyone who can replicate the elemental book-switch for da secret door? Should the ocean palace also be included? how would the giant elevator work? We would also need diagonals. Ocean palace. Lots of diagonals. IT'S A LOGISTIC NIGHTMARE.

OT: already created my own floating island, with lots of TNT. it's a pain to make the bottom look pretty again though.

Wait a minute he took the idea of floating islands from Terraria, I'll ignore the fact that floating islands our nothing unique to either game, and instead point out that Terraria got released 4 days ago, it takes a lot longer then that to develop a new feature for a game.

I'm looking forward to this update, hopefully I'll get to see some new blocks and ores in the sky realm.

I already get the occasional floating island type thing in my games, though they are usually only seperated from the top of a mountain by a couple of blocks.

Don't most people ust build giant floating stuff in the sky anyway?

At first I was "yeaaa" , but now I agree with some comments I've seen on other forums:

Instead of making completely new dimensions, it would be way more awesome if he could fit them in the current one by extending the maximum height and depth. It would possibly require a engine overhaul, but the end effect would be far more awesome than this, imo.

Logistical nightmare it may be, but it MUST HAPPEN.
In fact, I'm going to start planning it.

Also, On the Glacier seed, I hollowed out the large-ish flying island near spawn and made it into a castle. a flying castle. It was excellent.

I guessing that groups who made Laputa (Studio Ghibli) and Clouddales (MLP:FiM) will have to alter their buildings when this feature will arrive.

Predict someone will faithfully recreate the sky mountains from Avatar.

EDIT: Perhaps a new block could be the lowest portion of every island, which explains why they float? Skyblock?

They should make the safety 'no free fall' blocks out of unobtainium.

This looks cool. Looks cool. But, from playing the FutureShift map on our Escapecraft server, I can predict that this is going to be horrendously impractical (unless maybe there's no fall damage there).

Hmm...I wonder if he'd be insane enough to make a "wind" block like water or lava. So if you get like a wind bucket (stay with me on this) and capture a wind you could use it to propel things a certain distance, or make a fan or whatever.

Notch is so shameless in his taking ideas from mods.

You don't even need to say that. The original comment was inherently flawed.

If he didn't "take ideas" there would literally be nothing left to do. It's similar to movies that "Steal ideas". We are what? 10 thousand years deep into written human history? It's probably been done.

The Aether people will just slightly modify their mod to run off the official code and end up with a smaller mod download and less things to work around. Frankly it'll probably be all wins for them.

this. Its ridiculous to think notch would not do something he thought was a good idea just because a mod was being made with that same idea. There must be at least a few hundred minecraft modders out there all working on different ideas

exactly what i had in mind. Why dont he just integrate the Aether at this point?
