I like the addition of weather, but out curiosity, is there anything planned about having the snow melt? When I started my current world, the spawn point was surrounded by snow and ice. It's been frustrating enough to clear a path through the water for my boat, and I'd hate to have to do that everytime a snowstorm comes by.

Probably a fair compromise would be allowing snow and ice to melt at certain elevations. After a couple of days snow at water level will start to disappear, while the higher up you go the longer it takes. Eventually, snow becomes a permanent fixture unless you physically clear it off, or construct some kind of furnace network to keep your Skull Fortress snow-free.

I really like the idea of powered carts, but I probably still won't play this again for a while. I have a ton of college work, other projects, and Minecraft will probably hold my attention longer if a few more updates come out between now and when I go back to it.

achievements? really? something totally useless like that gets implemented before the game is done? well it might not have taken long to add that bonusfeature. But i'd rather have well working beds.
And it's crappy achievements kind, the kind you finish 95% in about 10 minutes and spend either 2 minutes or 2 weeks on the last one, depending on what you already have.

You mean a tutorial and a gathering challenge? Oh no, crappy achievements!

I'm sure they'll add more with meaning as they go. Once the system for registering achievements is in place, creating new achievement triggers is a doddle.

I don't get why everything needs achievements, isn't Minecraft supposed to be about using your imagination, not ticking off a checklist?
I just looked at them, they seem to just be a checklist of beginner things people need to know in order to play Minecraft, like making a workbench, catching fish, and making tools, with the exception of the cake and saddle achivements.

Fair warning, if you see a creeper that's been struck by lightning, you probably want to run in the other direction and never stop running.

One thing I despise about 1.5 is the fact that you cannot create ladders with gaps in them. For example, the common system I used before 1.5 was a ladder piece, then an empty space, then another ladder, rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Notch "fixed" this with the 1.5 update, so I had to fill out all my ladders and screw up the awesomeness factor in the design of my house. On the upside, the crafting recipe now produces two ladder pieces for seven sticks.

Thanks for tracking my stats now that I've suffered my first death ever. I was backing up into my home with a full hp bar, fighting a zombie when suddenly a wolf jumped in front of my view between me and the zombie. I turn around and the house is FULL of wolves. There's like 20 in there. I turn around and start swinging, in vain. I try to bust through the wall but it's too late and there's a hell of a lot of wolves.

Deaths: 1.

That is bugging me. So much.

I'm really quite ticked off right now. I've read the user agreement at least 4 times and created a profile but for SOME REASON i can't seem to check in the "i've read the user agreement box" which means whenever i click on the purchase button it says "read user agreement first!" making it impossible for me to able to buy it.
And now everybody but me has minecraft. ugh...

So far, its working sorta like an FAQ

How is your bed not "well working"? Just kidding, but seriously my bed works fine. What does yours do, or not do?

While I like these changes, it is kind of annoying how small the gap in between 1.4 and 1.5 was, as the server I use online took about a week to update to 1.4, and now I have to wait again before updating.

Nice changes though.
Fantastic. I feel sorry for Notch, you know, because no matter what he does he simply cannot win. If he takes his time in between patches, people ***** and moan on the forums about how in the old days Minecraft got updated every week and now he's sold out and is too lazy to finish his own game. If he gets the update out fairly quickly, people complain about servers having to be updated or mods no longer working.

I'm just excited to check all this new stuff out.

I really don't like the addition of achievements, it changes this infinite sandbox game into a "well what haven't I done yet" kind of thing.
Weather is sweet, props to that. Achievements? Where is my "turn off completionist tendency" switch...

yeah, this really irritated me too. It actually completely broke one of my super deep mines. I had to go get a fuck ton of ladders and fill in like 20-some gaps. Overall, 1.5 was pretty nice but I want to see more blocks or something.

I like the weather effects.

...Although getting stuck out in the rain because it kept the undead alive during the day was a bit of a bother. Perfect zombie flick material, I suppose.
