It sucks that so many games are coming out--or around--November. MW3, BF3, Skyrim, and SR3 are just some of the games that I'm looking forward to. However, I'm the kind of gamer who can't justify spending $60 (suck it, Aussies) on each of the games. So, I've the money to buy only one game at its full retail price, and the rest I will probably never buy unless they go on a 50% sale or something.

Therefore, I've really been weighing the various pros and cons of different games, and if there are no further developments, I've narrowed my choice between two games. When the games were first announced, respectively, Battlefield 3 took the early lead but it tragically squandered it when EA announced that game would be Origin exclusive. Modern Warfare 3 was always a strong contender, especially since I skipped out on BLOPS, I thought I might give this one a try. But since the game is using the same engine, colour palette, gameplay mechanics, and in general, has absolutely nothing new to offer, I think MW3 is pretty much out of the race.

Interestingly enough, the remained two candidates for my money, Skyrim and SR3, are gaming franchises which I have never previously sampled. I've never played a Saints Row game nor have I ever tried an Elder Scrolls game. I've been closely following the trailers, gameplay footage, unique selling points, and the general zeitgeist regarding the games, here, on the Escapist. And I'm absolutely fraught with indecision. A) I really don't know which of the two games I'll like more because I've never previously played them, and B) gamers are equally generous with their praise of both the franchises.

So, if you are poor, or just can't spend that much money this November, or if you are both, like me, which game are you getting? And do you think you might regret your decision?

EDIT: To my Aussie mates: I joke. I love your accents and cricket.

In before a veritable torrent of, "Skyrim!" With a sprinkling of, "SR3!" and the occasional, "Shooters suck now!"

Well, what genres do you particularly like? What appeals to you most about games? ...What parts of games do you like in particular? The stories? The sandbox nature, or lack thereof? Insane action? ...Anything? Because that's really going to help everyone give you a good recommendation.

For instance: I like RPGs, but I prefer more structured storylines and less "huge open world, go do whatever you want, the main storyline is secondary" sorts of RPGs. So I'm going to be skipping Skyrim until it drops significantly in price or renting it, because I don't have high hopes for liking Skyrim any more than I liked Oblivion.

So, generally... what sort of game do you feel like playing? That'll help you make your decision, and it'll help your fellow Escapists give you a recommendation based on something other than their own personal preferences.

I'm going with Skyrim just because it's been so damn long since I've played a decent fantasy RPG, but damn does SR3 look tempting. Do you like first person action adventure RPGs, or third person GTA style sandbox games?

I actually prefer FPS', but as I mentioned in my original post, I've been getting a bit sick of the redundancy in the games. But I really like the styles of Skyrime and SR3 equally: I really enjoyed GTA up to San Andres, and I had a really fun time playing First Person RPG's like Mount and Blade. So, really, it's a tossup. It's probably going to boil down to which game is offering a better pre-order bonus, or if any developer can manage to be less of a dick than the other.
