Just a quick question as I haven't played Skyrim and I don't own a PS3, Is this actually LAG or is it a just a frame rate drop. They aren't the same thing and it is bugging me. Lag is a delay between control input and action, try playing an online shooter using a 28k modem to see lag. The game might be running at 120 FPS but your actions are delayed from what you see on the screen. A frame rate drop is just that, a frame rate drop.
They mean framerate issues.

"Do we [as game developers] have a duty to ship a game that's bug-fucking-free within reason? Fuck yes," said the Twisted Metal developer, when asked about Skyrim's in an interview with Eurogamer.

"The problem is that definition of 'within reason' is a moving target depending on who you ask," he continued. "The first games I worked on were one-shot deals on SNES cartridges. When you were done you were fucking done. And so yeah, I certainly come up from a school that doesn't want to ship buggy as shit games."

"But there are always bugs in games," he continued. "You'd mention that fucking Skyrim bug, which I've not encountered yet. If you're talking about that kind of thing where the game gets really laggy to the point where it's goddamn unplayable, yeah, I would say that if we found a bug in our game that had that kind of an issue we would certainly do our best to make sure we didn't ship with it."

There, I just David Jaffed David Jaffe's statement.
You know, I was really looking forward to doing a piece on a David Jaffe interview because it's the only time I'd realistically be allowed to drop F bombs in a news post. I would get the only David Jaffe interview in the universe with only one instance of the word fuck.
I feel for you bro :(

Try around 36%. And that is just the lag.

It isn't just a handful of users.
If you're going by PS3 users, then yes, the percentages are far too high, but if you're going by total skyrim players (spread over all platforms), I bet the percentage of people experiencing game breaking issues is not that high.

Still, if 36% of your PS3 players is experiencing severe frame-rate drop, it's something that one would have expected to be found during testing. I can well imagine that Skyrim's PS3 audience is angry, and they have every right to be.

Bethesda should probably try to focus all their attention on the PS3 version, us PC gamers probably don't mind waiting (and if all else fails, we have the modding community to turn to). The 360 version of the game (from what I've heard) isn't experiencing (too many) game breaking bugs.

I thought that you meant PS3 users since this was an article about the PS3 version. Sorry, I didn't know that you were referring to all players.

I think it's only with big models of the system after the first patch. I have one of these and it does get a bit ridiculous at times, of course restarting it usually helps. Its better than the morrowind issue of freezing solid every 2 hours when running newer computers with vista. I really don't know if they are going to be able to fix the ps3 lag though if it is only across the old model ps3's.

Maybe they didn't use old models for testing, but I would like to see some game developer diaries where they detail there testing process.

I think the truly unnacceptable part comes wherein it actually stops you from completing the game - the Thieves Guild bug is one of those and really should be one of the foremost things they adress.
What bug is this? I've not heard anything about a game-breaking bug for the Thieves Guild.

Well, except thats it's super-easy to make so much money so quickly that you break the economy and render irrelevant all the crafting skills, but I think that was intentional :p

When you're supposed to meet the man who told you to reverse pickpocket the ring, he never moves. He continues to cause a distraction. Forever.
That's not a bug. He's just really dedicated to causing that distraction. Really *really* dedicated. I wish all people were that dedicated to their work, maybe then they wouldn't need the PC to save the day.

He ended with a pleasant, possibly even warm-hearted note of solidarity. "Every game is a battle for the developers, and I don't know the war stories of Skyrim so I'm in no position to judge good or bad about why they did what they did," he said. "I know they've made one of the best games of the year, if not the best."
I always like seeing stuff like this. Games developers are by their very nature competing against each other for a limited market on a luxury item. It's nice to see genuine praise from one to another.

The treatment us PS3 users have been getting from Bethesda is nothing short of fucking insulting... Skyrim was to be my GOTY, in fact it was supposed to last me well into next year I don't care how good the game is, right now IT'S USELESS TO ME!

They just won GOTY and Studio of the year after releasing this shit... Fucking sad
