How about a two people surviving out in the wastes, alone. They're just kind of milling about and then eventually find each other. They fall in love, lets call them John and Milly. So, John and Milly spend some time together and as I said they eventually fall in love. However, a roving band of survivors take her away to be...enjoyed, and so John has to go and get Milly back.
It turns out that they actually need Milly for an experiment as they're crazy and think they can turn back time with this machine they have. However, instead it will actually just explode in a nuclear blast, thus reliving one of the problems of the past. So, John sets out to stop them with his superior fighting skills and some swords that he found. The second in command has his own sword and is quite proficient at using it, and is really just there so he can get some kicks. He decides to fight John in order to have fun, and the two battle occasionally as John tries to save Milly and everywhere else.
Eventually John reaches the person in charge of the group and kills him, but not before he can activate the machine. John now has to race to where Milly is and save her before her bio energy can be used to run the machine, and the second in command decides to interfere knowing that John will fight his best when all the chips are on the line. They have a climactic battle with John winning and barely saving the girl in time. Or, if you want to add a weird plot to it, the thing actually works and John and Milly are sent far back in time where they live out the rest of their lives together without ever having to worry about the Nuclear Apocalypse.
There, I made that up as I went along. Bam, I'm the next Hideo Kojima!
