Your completely right. Nuclear power is the best way to get power because it doesn't cause any pollution, it creates something like a 4 billion oil barrel equivalent of electricity every day and its fuel source is plentiful. I don't know why the German government is doing this but I assure you that if it wasn't for the amount of stupid people around the world pressuring people in high places then we'd all get over this stupid phase *sigh*.

As a Swede, I fully support our nuclear power plants. It works great, doesn't produce CO2. After having looked into it, it's rather safe actually. Chernobyl will never happen in Sweden, due to safety measures and because we will ACTUALLY do something and not ignore the problem. As for the problems in Japan.... as said by the OP, we don't have fault lines running across Sweden.
Finally, more investment in Nuclear power will mean that it will become safer and better. Maybe we will find a use for the nuclear waste as well.....

Nuclear waste is an issue yes, but isn't the toxic waste and TONS of gas orientated pollution even more concerning?

My dad has a degree in Nuclear engineering, and he once told me they had a saying for the opponents of Nuclear power. That saying is: "Let the bastards freeze in the dark."
your father was a is a wise man

in the states we have enough shitty arid land to just build massive amounts of solar panel farms, but in europe you guys dont have the massive amounts of shitty land, so really nuclear power is a good thing

I wrote my Masters thesis essentially advocating nuclear power from a economic and political perspective.

So... yeah. I don't want to rehash that, now that I'm finally on holiday. But the biggest issue nuclear energy faces is unfamiliarity. People accept far greater levels of risk in their daily lives than that posed by a nuclear reactor, but those risks are much more familiar and therefore less threatening.

I dont mind Nuclear power. For about three months I lived with a family that lived near 3 mile island and they were all happy and content like clams. And theres been no adverse affects either.

Now, granted, maybe Nuclear power isnt a good idea if you live in Japan or somwhere like it, where you're right on a fault line and get earthquakes, but in general, I dont mind it, and quite enjoy it. I'd petition for it more, but Coal mining in PA is HUGE!

If Poland has any kind of business sense, they'll start building three or four new reactors close to our border and sell the massive amounts of electricity to our stupid asses at double the regular price.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about this knee-jerk decision either, if you didn't catch my drift.
Actually part of the compensation plan is to buy nuclear power from France, soooo . . . yeah.
Wonderful. I'm so happy I could crap.

Prices for electricity just went up again this year. I dread thinking about what those prices might look like in 11 years. -.-
