Because there is a greater portion of girls getting pregnant than there is violence in students. So rather than encourage more people having babies, they encourage violence which is less dominate in teens.

By covering up sexuality and not talking about it, teenagers only get more intrested in it and the whole thing gets overhyped.
And the idea that "teaching" violence somehow is better that teaching about birth control and how to protect yourself against STDs, is just outright stupid.

Beeing open about sexuality would together with sex ed help reduce STDs and teen pregnancy not the other way around!
Besides Nudity =/= Sex

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people that thinks hiding a problem makes it magicly disappear. Something that seems like standard religious operating procedure to me.

Consider that the same thing happens with movies. M(18+) is less dangerous and more common for movies than video games, but the problem is that the two biggest countries in the vidya game business are the US and Japan. Japanese businesses want to gain a foothold overseas around the world and they usually go to the US distributors first. They want to make the games less sexual, so the Japanese companies oblige because that's their biggest market.

(Of course, then they go whole-hog on the violence)

TEENS shouldn't have access to M rated game featuring nudity or violence now should they?

I don't understand the point of a rating system if it isn't taken seriously.

Nudity is simply the depiction of the bare human body in a way that the subject does not show awareness of. Nudity doesn't have to be the least bit sexual.

The fact that violence is acceptable when nudity is not is a bit on in our culture.
Still, I find it odd when people complain for the right for more nudity, rather than the more careful observance of violence. The thing is though, people fail to notice when what apparently is a social faux-pas is used, because when something's done right, it feels natural. Like how in Silent Hill, terrible, terrible things happen to children. This is handled in a very mature manner, and as a result, very few people have called the series out on it.

Just name a point in a video game where nudity is omitted when it really needs to be there.
Nothing really needs to be anywhere.
A certain part of this video can very well be applied to nudity. Do you see where I'm getting at?
I'm not saying that people shouldn't have nudity in video games because its not necessary, I'm saying that if nudity really has any business being in a video game in the first place, then there isn't really a problem. Its when people shoehorn breasts or other taboo bodily what-nots into a game that I would even begin to protest.

Violence:America

part of it is that with different beliefs come different morals.

Because Soccer Moms fail at logic
To be fair, Soccer Moms want violence gone, too.

I'm not saying I agree with them, but the stance of "Think of the children" is at least fairly level on those two issues. They will attack sex first because it's the easier target, but we've seen a lot of pushes against violence of late, too. In fact, it almost seems we're becoming more permissive in sexual content while pushing against most violence.

Not much, but still.

Sex also has a pretty widespread effect and is significantly easier to "commit," so I could sort of see the argument. I disagree, though. I'd rather see children exposed to sex than violence. And by exposed, I do not mean subjected. Kids probably shouldn't be watching porn or violence, anyway.

In terms of nudity alone, I hate how prudish we are about it. The human body is a subject of shame and scandal.

It's mostly an american thing. Most european countries dont have a problem with nudidy at all. Some, like germany do censor violence though.

i think a common thing that ive noticed and this it not ment in a racist way at all, but europian games are a lot more flipant with their sexuality than U.S games. maybe the different social context could be the reason

[sub]well, neither is violence, but y'know.[/sub]
Yeah, you're more likely to see 2 people fighting in the street, than 2 people walking around naked.

Becuase nude=evil for some reason. Shit i dont know why but i have more problem with gore and blood then with nudeity. Mass Effect got a lot of shit because of 0.2 seconds of sideboob and it was labeled a "Advanced sex simulator" or something like that. And it has been mentioned but nudeity=sex is one thing to.

Edit: Awesome! My 1000th post!

in Australia, old man government hates blood, gore and other stuff like that, as seen in the AUS release of L4D2, but if you lived in australia, basically the stuff you would see is punch ups and swearing, and aussies dont care about anything that goes on, especially in video games

I agree that it is strange how seeing someones insides is better then seeing naked flesh. However I dont think there are many scenarios that actually need it.

It's pretty strange that this holds true while so many companies utilize such blatantly sexual marketing campaigns. I think you all know what I speak of.

Because the USA, which is where most of the games and game-content rules come from, is a Christian country.
Because Japan, where the rest of games come from, has a (in that aspect only) stupid culture, which comes from USA.

QED. Games are heavily influenced by Christian culture.
