The nudity factor has never worked with me, my first encounter with video-game nudity was when i started playing Vice City back in 2002, i was around 11 at the time and already feeling the kicks of puberty.

I remember thinking;
Well, thats hot looking at one of the chicks in bikinis, right after i stole a car and drove over random people....

Sure the instincts were there but it never lead me to buy any games in the future, i saw through that charade at a young age.
Many of my ...pardon the term... stupider friends ended up with some really shitty games as a result of buying them cause of the badly shaped CGI buns and jugs on the cover or in the commercials.

The only series of games i bought with women priding the covers was the Grand Theft Auto games, only cause i have a fondness for the series.

Honestly? I don't think video games need nudity in them at all. Everyone has seen it all by the age of 11 anyway. Having it in a game for the sensationalist press it receives is the sign of an uncreative developement team. The tease of nudity with scant armor and underwear is far more titilating. But putting sex in a game is outright lazy. And if you must, have it be unseen just to enrage and increase the adrenaline for more.

I think that there shouldn't be nudity just to try and sell the game, the game should sell itself whether there's nudity or not.

By covering up sexuality and not talking about it, teenagers only get more intrested in it and the whole thing gets overhyped.
And the idea that "teaching" violence somehow is better that teaching about birth control and how to protect yourself against STDs, is just outright stupid.

Beeing open about sexuality would together with sex ed help reduce STDs and teen pregnancy not the other way around!

I don't understand the point of a rating system if it isn't taken seriously.

Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing wrong with it myself. My friend's uncle works at Nintendo in Washington and this is what he told us when we asked.

With respect to your friend's uncle, I feel that Nintendo don't do games where nudity would fit, they don't really make games like Mass Effect and Fallout, do they?
So I feel that's a bit beside the point, and even if he was an employee on say Bioware, I would still disagree.

I was just thinking about this the other day, or rather how ridiculous it is in film (although the following observations pop up in video games too). I've noticed it's usually acceptable to show a naked man from behind in a PG-13 movie, such as The Da Vinci Code or Beowulf, but bare female ass immediately gets an R rating, e.g. Terminator 3 although there were probably other factors in that case. Likewise, in R-rated films, male full frontal nudity is accepted (if not frequent) but god forbid you should show a woman from the waist down for more than a second or two.

My conclusion is that not only does our society find nudity harmful and thinks it turns the children into evil little rapists, but that female naughty bits are more likely to cause this than their male equivalents. What the hell does this say about us? Really, what are the implications there?

(Also, if you'd like to disprove my theory, go right ahead. I admit I have not watched large numbers of films with naked people.)

Not really. Violence is more acceptable in pretty much ALL types of media, except books mainly because you don't actually see it firsthand and your imagination pretty much do the exagerration for you while nudity is absolute. (you know what nudity looks like) Sorry, going off topic. It's more of a morality issue. In movies and games, we see bloodshed all the time, some of which are movies thhat the whole family would gather around and enjoy. Games are looked down upon in society (Im pretty sure all of you know that) and the rating system (compared to movies) is more strict. But though we see games in which limbs are torn off and the recipient spews enough blood to fill a kiddy pool. Why is that? Like I said before, it's a morality issue. What's the issue? There isn't one, that's the issue.It's not really morality, but the fact that society is hardened beyond the usual bloodshed. We see it everywhere: games, movies, books, even real life. But the fact that a nipple is even seen in an interactive medium, the mere witness will make anyone not familiar with the medium or it's context cast Shtstrm2 on all their enemies (ie. us) I agree that the whole "Mass Effect Scandal" was a joke, but this trend will eventually pass if we see enough of it. I would just sit back, bite the bullet, and ignore my parents as they tell me that my games are melting my brain away.

I'm sure someone already said something in the lines of this but I'm too lazy to read all the comments, plus I'm a college student and I should be doing my homework. But if someone does, then I have my egg ready.

So last night I booted up Fallout 3, which I haven't played in a long time. I figured, heck, why not go search for mods? I've only ever downloaded mods for STALKER, which were great. I went to the nexus mod community site and started browsing. First up was a high res texture mod. Then I found one to make the plasma rifle crits only melt the skin, so a skeleton remains (which is awesome). Then, I found some... "interesting" ones.

First up is model/skin updates. Basically makes all the characters look way hotter, and also removes the underwear when you're not wearing anything... and actually you can select which body to have as well as if you want to be shaved or have pubic hair lol. This was all kind of funny, but it did make them look a lot better. There was an update to the looks to give all the women bigger boobs too, but I didn't download this one (yet?). And then I found one that I just had to try, because it was quite a "WTF?!?" - in game prostitution. Essentially it adds the ability to perform sex acts with basically anyone. It's pretty simple, of course, and extremely vulgar. It adds nothing to the game, and frankly after about 2 minutes of trying a few different positions it got pretty boring. It did add the ability to be a pimp tho, so that's kind of "neat" I guess.

Anyway, I'm brining this up to point out that this is definitely not an acceptable way for a developer to do nudity. I don't think any of this is needed in a game. However, I do have to say kudos to the modding community for being able to create things like this, even if the prostituting is rather depraved, the model/skin updates are actually very nice (and they have men and women, btw).

I think a good way to do nudity is in the context of Heavy Rain. I know it was brought up before with the shower scene, but the thing is for one, you didn't have to do that and two, you did have to make the main character guy (sorry, forgot names already) take a shower. In neither case you see genetalia, but in both cases you see butts and bare chests. The other nudity scene in the game takes place much later, and again is optional as you need to make to characters fall in love. In context of the game and what's happening at the time, I think it was very reasonable and certainly it was vastly more tasteful than the Fallout 3 mod.

So would I. I don't mind nudity at all but that is the reason he says that they avoid the subject.

gee someday it will be in games,but i don't have a prob with it ,only when they say there is nudity (gta,sr2,etc)in a game and you don't see any at all
