Nvidia or ATI

Personally, I like Nvidia. I have used both brands and have had better experiences with Nvidia. That's not to say ATI is bad, especially since they are making some really nice cards nowadays. Hell, Nvidia doesn't even have a card that can compare yet, I don't think. My main problem with ATI was finding good drivers. They don't seem to work as well as Nvidia's. Just my opinion though.

Nvidia's driver support is better yes.

Example: Nvidia runs a game at 100+ fps but that sometimes dips down to 40- in very hectic situations but an ATI card of equal quality to Nvidia will run it at 60 and keep it there.
From the reviews (Anandtech, Tom's Hardware, and Xbitlabs) I've read, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Im going on personal experience.

ATI, cheep and cheerful also this current gen the price vs performance gap between ATI and Nvidia is huge with nvida cards being 2-3 times more expensive vs the respective ATI card

Nvidia, because I like the name. It's a 8400gs, so it runs like an aging donkey with memory loss, but it gets the Job done.

Sometimes.

Calumon: We don't know alot about computers. :p
This is totally me, right here. I have a 9500, which isn't much better based on what I've heard. But hey, at least it runs games like Portal, Bioshock and TF2 pretty well.

I have an ATI 5770. I used to have a Nvidia 9800GT which was fairly good, but broke after only a year. My ATI graphics card is my preferred graphics card. ATI for me.

Wait a minute, If your me, then I am you, but you are me? So I'm you who is me, who is you and me simultaneously. Therefore I can divide by zero!

I have an Nvidia card.

I got an ATI HD 4870 when they were new, but I got one from a bad batch and it kept crashing whenever I played games. The only fix was a BIOS flash or something, and I cocked it up.

So I went back to Nvidia. I'm sure if I bought another, it would be fine, but still. I have a 275 now, as my poor old 8800GT was showing it's age a little. That was a good card, still does most of the newest games at great frame rates on medium-high settings.

Nvidia for speed, ATI for price.

Nothing wrong with either, I've just found that the Nvidia cards I've owned have performed better than the comparable ATI's for the time. Benchmarks always show ATI's to have higher framerates, but I find Nvidia's to be more stable (ie. the ATI's FPS peak higher [20-90], but also bounce lower, whereas the Nvidia's stay within a more set number of FPS[70-80] ).

So for me, it's always Nvidia. For someone building a computer, go ATI because it is cheaper, and you're not really missing any performance.

Every nVidia (Quadro FX1600M, FX3600M, GeForce 8800GT, number of older ones) that I or most of my friends owned, broke down within 0-1 years. I don't have much info on ATI reliability, but the one damn card (X1950PRO) that I own is 3 years old and kicking.

And I have a habit of pushing them hard. Even if I own just this one card... I do think it was a far better investment, than the headaches I got with RMA'ing and looking how others RMA'd nVidias, as if it was part of the card's lifecycle.

I realise they're fairly dated. Not like big companies reinvent their products often, though. Just minor improvements bloat-marketed as big-ass advancements.

I have Nvidia right now, most likely stay as long as Nvidia used PhysX. I really love it. XD Like how ATi adopted DX10.1 and DX11 fast though.
Physx isn't something you get with every game. Physx is an API like DX11 that can be integrated into games.

Not many games actually use Physx and in those that do, you dont get a massively better experience than if Physx was off.

Also, with the way OpenGL is heading, it will be as good as Physx but also completely open source and free.

Oh and in response to your comment on RMA'ing and reinvention gl1koz3, RMA'ing isn't really to do with NV or ATI as much as it is to the AIB's as they are the ones who set warranties for their individual products.

Also, the worst company for re-invention is NVidia. When they brought out the GTS 250, it was basically a 9800GTX with a different face.

Nvidia here, mainly because I've not had any problems with their cards so I don't see the need to try out another company, though I am building a new computer I might just get an ATI card to see if the grass be greener on the other side, or if its just the same as the grass on this side.

Yeah, they suddenly upped their pace quite dramatically.
Pretty much, Physx is proprietary to NVidia and they make devs jump through hoops to integrate it in there. Not to mention that NVidia locked out ATI's cards and blocked the wrap around being coded for Physx on ATI cards.

I have a feeling that in a few years, Physx will be slightly defunct if OpenGL gets good enough due to the open-source and free factor alone.

AIB's they are called Powertool, "Add in Board" manufacturers.

Unsure why, but I love ATi Sapphire cards. They seem to last ages and perform greatly.
Not to mention they have really good warranties on their products too, 5 years i think?

The vapour-x models are also generally amazing.

ATi = Best Bang for Bucks in Price to Performance Ratio in the Performance end of things
Nvidia = Physix and the top end one is better than ati's top IF your willing to pay through the nose for it

Me personally ATi, Done me great for years and my HD4870 still going strong!

I say ATI because they have a good price vs power ratio. Also my one experience with an Nvidia card was an ugly one with it overheating and dying wihthin months of purchase because the fan on the actual card died :(
