I created this thread after reading this news article about the Korean man who married his life-size pillow with an anime girl printed on it.
Many people thought this was something characteristic about the far-eastern culture, and, instead of quoting them all (a task worthy of Sysiphos), I decided to open up a thread about it.

Objectophilia not only exists in the far east, the first publically known case was actually in Europe, but it's so extreme I'll don't actually want to talk about it. I once read an article about this, and there are several examples of object-sexuality or objectophilia:

-A woman who is in love with a three-ton machine at her workplace (it's a lesbian relationship, of course). She also said, as a teen girl, she had a crush on a huge bolt. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

-Another woman who was in love with the WTC, and now keeps a model of "him" (?). She had it manufactured from the same material the original twin towers were made of, the scale being 1:1000. It was important to her that the steel was rust-free so she can take a bath with it.

-A man who is now in a steady relationship with his railway-model. He admitted he had a few affairs here and there when he was doing repairs in his home, on the radiator, for example. He's aroused by the technical interiors of machines.

-I also remember a woman from California, who allegedly married the Eiffel tower, her last name is now "Eiffel".

-Another man would never break up with his iBook. Again, a homo-relationship. Of course. Instead of watching porn, he checks the latest notebooks on ebay.
I'm dead serious about this, no jokes in there.

Most of them consider themselves not object-sexual but objectophile, because they actually give their beloved things personalities, genders, names and treat them like real people, and don't just have them for lust purposes.
The article didn't cover how they did it with their significant others, though, sorry to disappoint you there.

PS: Oh yeah, that first publically known case which is so extreme I don't even wanna talk about, I'll keep it short: A woman from Sweden married the Berlin Wall in '79 (which is, incidently, her new last name of course - legally attested, no joke), and considers herself a widow since November '89. There's even a movie about her.

Well, considering these facts, that man who married his pillow is rather normal, isn't he? I mean, at least it looks like a drawn human.

TL;DR: All over the world, there's people who love objects, stop blaming only them azns and read everything I wrote here instead.

Yes, I've read in a magazine about men who enjoy the company of their cars a little too much. Exhaust pipes are not meant to be clogged... with anything... *cough*

Wait... this is an epic mindfuck? Wasn't this exact same topic posted like... months ago and wasn't it recently necro'd? I'm 99% sure I've seen this before.

Anyway - I always reckon that people who think they 'love' an object simply haven't felt 'real love' yet.

Pics or it didn't happen - (Source please?)

OT: Even if it is normal, I mean, marriage seems a bit excessive.

Was it? Judging from how uninformed the people (granted, I didn't read the entire thread) on that Korean guy were, I'd never guessed.

Yeah... I'm telling you, don't search for "car" in google-images with the filters turned off. FFS, I didn't expect that.
Edit: @Pimppeter2. Do it. Type in "car" in google images with filters turned off, there you've got your pics.
In all seriousness now, I know I didn't cite any sources, that's because I gathered my information from a German magazine called "Spiegel". I'll come up with some English info and add it to the OT.

Since you don't have any direct contact with your PC, I'd say no, but your computer might get some disease we're immune to and don't even recognize. I'd be careful.

I kind of get the woman and the bow, seeing as it is something you really use, hold, and know, kind of like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar0_um--LDQ&feature=PlayList&p=8EDB1647F5439490&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=19] I guess, but damn, fences and amusement park rides? I cannot even begin to get that.

Object-sexuality is basically a safe way for someone to experience a relationship without actually experiencing one. People with OS often have developmental issues or very traumatic childhoods that have signalled to them subconsciously that humans are an "unsafe" option for their affections. However, sexuality can never be truly repressed - it always comes out in some other form. This type of disorder is a lot more common than you think.

The film "Lars And The Real Girl" covers similar territory (if not exactly the same, as Lars really believes that his blow-up girl is alive). It's worth checking out for anyone interested in this issue as while the film is a comedy on the surface, it does deal with the issue at hand with some intelligence and clever insight.

I once knew a girl who was 'in love' with The Statue of Liberty. I argued with her for countless hours about how it's just inanimate and it's scientifically impossible for just one of them to feel any shred of emotion ever, let alone all models of it and renditions.

She also failed to realise why another guy we knew got offended at his national landmark being treated as such.

As far as people go, she was an absolute moron, I don't know if that's how all objectophiles are. If it is, I guess I'm just intolerant.

It is quite common. These people in the documentary are not one in a million, they're just the one in a million willing to go public. People with OS tend to keep their disorder in the closet, for obvious reasons.

Lars And The Real Girl is an excellent film and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to absolutely anybody. It could have gone for cheap shots but it doesn't - instead it handles its subject matter with sensitivity and style, while still being both incredibly funny and oddly discomforting at the same time. One of the best comedy films of the 2000s.

Shouldn't her last name be "Tower"?
