Hey guys, so I decided to brush the dust off one of my personal favorites, Oblivion (console). I was thinking about restarting, and creating a Imperial ranger type character, but can't decide on if I should have him become a vampire, and patrol the shadows of the night. Is it really worth it?

Well Vampirism isn't that good in Oblivion, and it's more of a pain than anything due to certain NPCs not being really active at night. I mean the perks are nice, but the health effects are annoying more than anything. Honestly I say don't go for it, but it's your call.

I find that Vampirism is only worth bothering with in Oblivion if you want the extra challenge. The benefits are just you're a bit better at things than normal.

It can be fun, but I would go down the blade route especially because bows are bullshit in that game and just stop doing damage after Level 10.

Lol, I agree with the bows. And I have beaten this game already, and I wanted more of a challenge, I raised the difficulty as well, do you think vampirism would be too hard with the difficulty raised?

I wouldn't say so, it's just a matter of learning how to get all your shit done before the sun rises. With a higher difficulty I just tend to do what I always do: backpedal while healing myself until I can get a few more stabs in.

I also advice taking a walking tour of the roads between the cities so you can get as many map markers as you can. Fast travel is not your friend when you're a Vampire so you need to be able to get to a nearby place quickly, or at least know what place has a roof so you can wait 'till night time again.

Plus I did that tour recently and it was quite the pleasurable experience.

-Screams about how superior the PC version is from a distance-
Serious though, if you got a PC that can play it well, get it on that.
Other than my obvious elitism though...
I'd go for the opposite of your other playthroughs, but still picking whichever race you feel would be cooler cos it doesn't really matter in the end. Also, if you don't, get the GOTY edition for whichever console you have, it'll be dirt cheap and AMAZING.
But yeah, basic advice, go outside your comfort zone.

Lol, trust me, if I had a computer able to work Oblivion I would do it in a heartbeat, that game on PC is the shit. And I'm catching your drift

Do it, dude. I've done that a ton of times and it's just a blast.

Oh man, you got me wanting to play Oblivion now. Haha.

Lol, the game is a blast in general. And with my sneak type character, what spell class should I master? (For some reason I must master all three classes, melee, range and spell to feel complete haha)

Well, just remember to regularly run off into the forest like a crazy old man and explore. It's a lot of fun.

On a different note, i'm slightly upset that the moddig for oblivion isn't anywhere near as good as skyrim mods.

I recommend that for even more challenge, you not only become a vampire but prey on the inhabitants of Hackdirt as well. They have displeased our infernal master.

If he's a ranger he could go bows and stealth. I found that far from stopping doing damage, once I'd gained a few levels I was one shotting most enemies, as I usually play sniper types I was really confused by people complaining about the combat being a chore until I realised I'd never really had to use hand to hand to any extent. Bows without stealth though...ugh.

But yeah, vampirism, more of an annoyance than anything I found.
