I just bought Oblivion, and have had to restart twice now because of glitches. The first one, I just tried to quit the game, it crashed, and when I rebooted, I lost all my possetions, was given my jail clothes and my character had completely disappeared.

The next one, my game crashed again! Hooray, but when I rebooted this time, I couldn't unblock (stuck in the blocking mode). I reloaded an earlier save and it was fine... untill I equipped a shield and I was stuck again. Any fix for this or do I have to restart again?

I'd have to agree with JCTiger. I know that uninstalling it will be a pain, but there might not be a workaround.

If you don't want to do that, download all the latest patches, scrap your current character, and start again. While you're at it, you might want to pick up some Oblivion DLC. The Shivering Isles was excellent.

I have the GotY edition, and Steam would domnload all the patches wouldn't they? I've already scrapped my character twice.

The GotY edition comes with the only official patch on it.

You have to download the unofficial patch. Its a mod.

I got the Unofficial Patch, installed it, but the bug is still there, now starting a new game doesn't even fix it. I'll try reinstalling.

Have you tried the Steam forums? Might be just the Steam version. If so you can contact VALVe and they will try to fix it.
