I was just looking at Amazon UK to pre-order Skyrim. Checking out the reviews (naturally, despite being a hardcore fan) I noticed there were 1 or more people calling it Oblivion Skyrim.

I stated that 'there has never been a point in any advertisements, analysis, pre-release reviews, interviews or gameplay where it has been called "Oblivion Skyrim".' and to be perfectly honest, there hasn't; and I've scoured the pipes of the internet for days on end to find out as much as I can about the sequel to a game I would gladly place in my Top 5.

How do you (or others) come to this conclusion about a game sequel?
As I stated on Amazon; it would be like me saying I'm off to buy Modern Warfare: Black Ops or Halo 3: Reach.

EDIT: just for you, my mildly brain-dead sponge: It's called The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and it's sequel is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - but if you've been reading this forum lately you would know from the Mojang-Bathesda posts.

Pay no attention to them. The people who are calling it "Oblivion: Skyrim" are the same people who were calling Fallout 3 "Oblivion with guns". -_-

These are either people who were introduced to the Elder Scrolls series through Oblivion and are not very well versed in gameing culture, or trolls. Either way they should stop it because it makes them look immensely stupid.

Have you ever read Youtube comments every time a new RPG video comes out? The idiots think everything is Oblivion, or trying to rip it off, including games that came out 15 years ago.

So much print spent on so average a game.

I was going to tell you that you were wrong until I reread what you wrote. On first glance I read "Yet I distinctly remember..." and it wasn't until I reread it that I saw "Yeah I distinctly remember..." and it became clear that you were being sarcastic, interesting how a single word can change the tone of a sentence.

OP: Could be people trying to help Notch out.

I feel bad for these people who are ignorant to the Elder Scrolls series. The previous games were amazing and all that jazz. I am disappointed when people think that Oblivion is the only ES game worth playing and that all other ES games revolve around it.

I've done that way too often, usually when it's gone midnight and I haven't had any coffee :D

I downloaded TES1: arena to relive that awesome game. But after so many years it just didn't capture me the same. Ah well, Oblivion was good enough to steal away 1000 hours though.

I consider Fallout 3 to be like Oblivion with guns, especially since they're both made by Bethesda, but they are two completely different games.

OT: People are stupid, I don't see why you are surprised by that, lol.

Well... it's probably going to be a lot like Oblivion, just with improvements and what not. I mean... Bethesda kinda makes one type of game... big open, do what you want, worlds. Each one is different, but then they're all the same at some level too. Which isn't wrong, I've more or less enjoyed all their recent games since Morrowind.
If i recall correctly, isn't WET, Brink, Hunted The Demons forge and some old terminator games made by Bethseda? They make quite a range of different games.

Although, yeah, some people see it as a sequel, simply because of how big a success oblivion was, personally, I wasn't a massive fan of Oblivion, I loved the Fallout games though, so will be picking up Skyrim. It don't matter if people think its a sequel anyway, wont make a huge difference.

People like that really annoy me. Another case of this but one I can forgive is The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles. It is not called The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Shivering Isles or Oblivion: Shivering Isles and whive lots of people call it that I don't get angry over it. However I almost hit my friend on the head when he called The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim "Oblivion 2."

It only publishes those; TES is developed in-house.

OT: Its a result of people not being big gamers in general but catching on to a few big games.

I always thought that saying "Fallout 3 is oblivion with guns" was rather mean to Oblivion. I mean Oblivion had a lot more weapons going for it. Honestly it wasn't till New Vegas that I really really liked Fallout because ...of a variety of things. Honestly people need to learn to seperate the company from the game.

Do you think Bethesta is a ass for suing notch? Fair enough but that doesn't change a good game from being good. Unless it has shitty draconian DRM in it then it's only playable in the microwave.
Note: I realize my thoughts are all over the place but I'm 'buzzed' from my energy drink. Whoops
