Hey guys, I'm having an issue with the PC version of Oblivion.
I can run it fine, and I should, my PC is pretty good, but whenever I enter combat it starts getting choppy, and I lose framerate massively.
I heard it was a sound related problem.
Anyone have a fix? Thanks.

This is what I came up with by searching on Google:

Hopefully it'll help.

Have you played before and not had this problem? My first instict would be hardware not keeping up with it but I will take your word your computer runs it fine. My other question is do you have any mods running?

If it is indeed sound I can give you my crappy advice. I havnt done this in forever and since I am now running 7 I cant double check this. However my suggestion would be to go into sound and audio devices in the control panel.

From there (I do believe) go to advanced options and there should be a little slider somewhere about sound quality or optimization, you are going to want to turn that down. I am gonna keep looking around and get back to you.

Edit: I am pretty sure thats not how you do it at all but I do know quite a few games used to have bad problems because of it (usually crashes). I know there is a setting it has to do with sound optimization or something and it has a slider of like high medium low etc. I know I usually had to set that slider down to make whatever it is work. Some games need it higher some needed it lower it was a bit of a headache. Anyway I know it caused a lot of problems.

My searching however brought up mostly suggestions of hardware problems or just not being able to run it. I would suggest lowering your settings and trying again (you probably did this already anyway). So the only other thing I can think of is maybe its a mod. That or patch the puppy and cross your fingers.

There is an unofficial patch that might also help you. I have not run it though so no promises there. Link follows.

If your not using a non D2D version you can get the streamline mod which I hear helps with this issue, but and easier way is to activate the console and use tg which toggles the grass on or off which improves the frame rate immensely since the computer doesn't have to show your fight and the rolling grass as well.
