So here is something i been putting off a while. I have never actually played oblivion, even though i picked up a few sales back. I got it installed, but before i dive in can anyone suggest some nice looking mods to spruce things up a bit?

Is this another thread where I get to rave about Nehrim? Hell yes!

Anyway, if you play Oblivion and find it lacking, or if you want something different from it, or if you just want to play a really good RPG, then I cannot recommend Nehrim enough. It's a total conversion mod for Oblivion, that is, in my opinion, far better than Oblivion itself. It's got a good story, good characters, awesome quests, and some of the best environments I've seen in any RPG. I would definitely recommend playing vanilla Oblivion first, but afterwards, definitely give Nehrim a shot.

Grab something to fix the character models. They're still going to be ugly, but they won't be eye-gougingly so. http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/43612/?

Definitely pick up something to improve the game's Marksman/Archery mechanics. No more leaden arrows, no more firing at the ground because you can't cancel your shot when your bow is already drawn.

I can't find the specific mod I used when I first modded Oblivion, but that was probably in a complete combat overhaul mod some place.

Definilty want to get a mod to fix the level scaling. It gets to a point where if you don't micromanage every level to optimize your stat boosts, you'll get worse than empty levels; you'll actually decrease in relative power with each level.

People have accomplished this in two ways; either by removing level scaling in favor of hand placed enemies with a definite value, or by messing with the level scaling rates, or by messing with how leveling works. Search around the nexus boards to figure out which mod works best for you.
