Dear Escapists,

I have obsessive compulsive disorder, the things that I do uncontrollably include licking random objects and having to touch things around me. I always find myself licking my shoulder without realising it. My friends are all used to it and don't care, but I often find myself having to really struggle to avoid doing these things during social situations with new people.

So I was just wondering, are there any other Escapists out there with OCD or similar conditions?

note - I used the search bar before posting this but only found one other topic on OCD which hadn't been posted on since the start of february so I decided to start a new one

I don't think ladies like to be licked by people they don't know well... Or maybe that's just me.

I sometimes feel the need to hit people near me but I supress it most of the time.

I've never been diagnosed with anything of the sort, but I never bothered getting checked either. The closest thing I have to that sort behavior is that I constantly multiply or divide anything I see by 4... on extreme days that entails reading billboards letter by letter and dividing the final count of letters by 4 (or 16, if there are too many letters). Seems weird to me, but at least I don't bother anyone with this habit since it's all in my head. :)

I've been asked before whether I've had OCD, or sometimes ADHD (I can be very excitable sometimes). I do sometimes wonder whether I have a mild form of OCD, since I'm a messy person, but I like things to be ordered. Once while following my parents around Debenhams I took time out to make sure all the sample lipstick tubes were correctly rotated and ordered.

Yeah... mine is all about being clean... I wouldnt like even seeing you lick yourself let alone do it myself. I dont shake hands because... well, some people are disgusting and you just cant be too sure. I clean the toilet before and after I use it, which sucks if I am busting. And I wash my hands thoroughly, hence why my hands are always smooth... I use liquid soap not normal soap. :D

Also, if I feel I NEED to wash my hands I will start rubbing them around each other or tearing the edges of bits of card or paper that I might have... I once shredded a 10 pound note without realising... that sucked.

Nope, out of the numerous mental disorders I could have OCD isn't one of them.

My cousin does though, poor girl. And my aunt and uncle have to pay for treatment because the NHS would make her wait over a year....

*lots of grumbling about how crap the NHS is....*

While I do have a number of quirks that could be almost classified as such (like not being able to buy the 1st of something presented on a store shelf, or having to put my shoes and socks on in a precise order).

The closest I get is the need to wash my hands many, many, many times during the day, whether they're dirty or not. Had a psych eval at the same time as an IQ test for a job once, mentioned it, but was told it's nothing to think about, unless I start going through multiple bars of soap in a single day.

I have to do odd things sometimes, like make sure magazines aren't touching or arranging things in a certain way or form, also I don't like certain foods touching. But I'd say there more odd quirks then any form of disorder, its never got in the way of my life and has been beneficial in some cases as it removes stress very quickly.

That must be hard to live with... The only OCD thing I have is I have to be on the 'right' side of someone when I'm walking with them. Thing is, the side that feels right constantly changes so I'm always switching sides. Kinda freaks people out if they don't know me :p
