With Fallout New Vegas coming out soon, people are concerned that it won't live up to FO3 because Obsidian has a tendency to screw up sequels (Kotor 2)..But didn't Obsidian make the first fallout games which were apparently more liked than the one made by Bethesda?

So I guess what I'm trying to ask is would it of been better if Bethesda made New Vegas or is it in good hands with Obsidian.

Obsidian didn't make the first fallout games, that was Interplay. I believe they only made the second one alongside Interplay back when they were Black Isle studios.

FO was originally by Black Isle, but they broke up and reformed under Obsidian, and your last question is completely about taste. Some people like Beth games better than FO, some feel otherwise.

Did EA make L4D2?

EDIT: Obsidian AN ANONYMOUS SOURCE has said the main problem with Alpha Protocol was a bad lead designer who wanted to put to many ideas in the game, and refused to change some things that would have improved the game. I think the same source said FO NV was going along well, and from what I've read it has been previewing well. [Link]

Obsidian didn't mess up KotOR II that was GL who rushed them cause he wanted the game out in time for the holidays.

That said, I'll wait until I play New Vegas before I make an opinion about the game, instead of jumping to conclusions and assume it will be bad/rushed, etc. Past experience doesn't prove the future.

I liked Bethesda's game. I'd like a game that hands similar to it. I have confidence in the plot and character of the game. It's the mechanics I'm curious about (curious because I'm not worried or doubting). I will 100% reserve judgment on until it comes out.

Lucasarts are the ones who dropped the ball with KOTOR 2, not Obsidian. I know Alpha Protocol has its fair share of problems but the fact that there are actual consequences to the choices you make fills me with hope.

I honestly would be less excited about New Vegas if it was being developed by Bethesda. Not that I don't love Bethesda games, but bringing a new dev into the picture will also bring in new ideas. While it may appear to be just a location switch from Fallout 3, the fact that the developers have changed makes me think that enough will be different that it will still feel fresh.

I have no idea if it's a general rule, but in my experience, Obsidian make baaaaaaaaaaaaad sequels. Baaaaaaaaaad.

I will never forgive them for the ending of Neverwinter Nights 2.

Because of their track record plus, they don't have experience with this kind of Fallout.

Which ending? Are we not counting the expansions? Feel free to elaborate with Spoiler tags, it's been a while since I've played NWN2.

Besides, KOTOR 2 wasn't their fault. And both KOTOR2 and NWN2's problems were mostly related to rushed and buggy releases.

They had as much hand in the original Fallout as 2k Marin in the original Bioshock. Be very afraid.
What i don't get, is why they're working with Fallout 3's style at all. It was bad, why carry it on. Return to top down

You mean the faction loyalty mechanics? I'm curious about that too. It seems like a mixture of Fallout 3 and GTA 2.

That said, I'll probably find it difficult to play, because generally in this kind of game I try to keep everybody happy. Unless one of the factions go against my goodie-two-shoes moral code, in which case I will cut them all up, burn their homes and salt the ground so that nothing will ever grow again. Because that's what Jesus would do.
