...or some other similar game, if they can get their own Kickstarter phenomenon going!

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/10/obsidian-want-to-know-what-you-want-them-to-make/#more-93897

I'd link directly to Obsidian's page on the subject, but as the link above says, it's presently getting hammered.

How much would you pay for Planescape 2? I think a few of us would pay ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

I want KotOR 3 from them.

I know what you're gonna say. No, not you. But you (leers angrily). And I don't care.

That or a new IP.

That was the first thought that popped into my head. As the article says, having Obsidian make a game without having to meet a deadline could potentially create something absolutely amazing and something I'd be very excited about. But as the article also says, I really, really, really do hope it's going to be set in the Planescape universe. Torment is my second favourite game of all time, so another game set in that universe by virtually the same developer and crucially with Chris Avellone on board, would just be incredible. Make it happen!

Also, the fact that their website is down is very positive. It means that people are excited about it, most likely.

Well, this is also a very exciting proposal, one that I certainly wouldn't be disappointed by, if that's the game they would make. I doubt it though, sadly, since TOR is out and Bioware screwed up the lore set up so brilliantly by KotOR 2. Atleast the lore of Planescape is pretty much intact, since no one else than Black Isle have done much with the license.

I love Obsidian and will definately buy that game. Now speaking of planetscape torment, should I get it because I never played it, but I recently went back and bought kotor and loved it.

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand I'd sell my left kidney to be able to jump into the depth of the Planes again.

On the other...how can a sequel to PS: T live up to the expectations we have from its predecessor? Especially in the modern day when it's all about streamlining, polygon count and action, when gamers can't be bothered to read and think if they can mash the fire button to make stuff die around them? And you couldn't go down the Dark Souls difficulty style, because PS: T was never about combat. The real dangers always lied in the conversation, and exploration. Sure, a more action oriented RPG in the Planescape universe might be a good game, but it would not be a Torment game.

A "true", excuse the expression, Torment game in the modern day would be a game targetted at a niche audience at best, and well...the chances of finding a publisher that would a) be willing to take the risk and b) would not fuck it up with executive meddling don't look too good.

I would so love to see another Planescape but can anyone be trusted to do it correctly? The original was such a fun classic that I would hate to see harmed with a moron friendly (casual) game. So long as they took their time, didn't give into the casual gamer pressure for simplicity and made the game entertaining then I'd gladly pay up for a chance to go back to Planescape (it's been so very very long)!

Ah, Obsidian. Peddlers of inferior and buggy sequels to successful properties. It's ironic, considering where Obsidian came from, but after seeing their output of the last decade... if they made PS:T2... I probably wouldn't even buy it.

Doubly so when reminded of their mouthing off a few months back... screw 'em.

Obsidian screwing up a sequel to yet another great past RPG? Some how I'm not surprised.
The interesting part of this is that Obsidian won't have a ridiculous deadline shoved down their throat, meaning they can release it upon completion and not before. (Something they have always had to do working on everyone else's dime.) This is the opportunity Obsidian needs to stand on its own two legs instead of the crutches publishers loan them for X months before ripping them away before the game can walk healthy.

As for Planscape, I got a question, why does every game need a sequel? Seriously my favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption, but you don't see me craving for a sequel.

Why cant we just let Planscape Torment be? Not every good game needs to turn into a trilogy or have a sequel.
The article is slanted. RPS wants people to request Planescape. I agree with you, I don't see a reason to give it a sequel. Personally, I would rather see them be able to spread their wings with Alpha Protocol, or bring out a new IP and keep AP on the back burner for when they get solid footing.

If Obsidian is going to try and stand on their own two feet, they need a flagship title of their own, not piggybacking on other people's claim to fame.

If there was ever a sequel in the planescape universe I would trust it in no other hands other than the mastermind behind the original, Chris Avellone. Who is currently working at Obsidian...

I still want them to work on something original. Obsidian has some of the best writers in the business, and without publisher meddling they can truly make a good traditional RPG.

this would be quite interesting, and i would lol incredibly if it sold more than TOR (just as kind of a dick smack to the face at EA/bioware for not making the true sequel to kotor 2)

OT: planescape 2..sounds amazing.

as long as obsidian do their thing and it's an rpg, i dont care exactly what it is.

Well while the child inside me is dancing on the roof right now, I would say No to Planescape 2.
Apart from the fact that game doesn't need a sequel we all know it would not be the same, more to the point there is maybe 5% of gamers that would want it the same, yet it would always be compared to it...
Ergo a sequel is pointless, a new spiritual successor IP however would be greatly appreciated.

As for KOTOR 3, you think Lucas Arts will make a competing product to their biggest investment... they may be idiots but they are not insane.

I'd prefer Arcanum 2 since Tim Cain is also working at Obsidian. An isometric Fallout would be nice too.

As for all the complaints about Obsidian's games being buggy, Black Isle games were just as buggy, if not more so. Fallout 1 and 2 (3 too) had some very big problems. Planescape: Torment probably would have worked better as a point and click game since the combat was pretty much pointless. It's the writing that's actually important.

Oh god no.
Don't let them ruin one of the last untainted old-school game IP's.
Unless they're going to bring back top-down view and squadbased strategy game design, then I doubt very much that this will end well.
I just simply have no faith in Obsidian being able to make a worthy succesor, especially taking their recent performance in mind.

You know, I think I would fund a project to have KotOR2 receive a proper ending.
