Hey there Escapists, after some brief reflection, I realized that I have had some very obvious sudden realizations that most everybody already knew of. So, my question to you is, what realizations (if any) have you had that are common knowledge and make you feel silly/stupid for not realizing them a long time ago?
As for me, mine was that the L&R triggers on game controllers stand for left and right. I just figured that out this year, and I'm 18... Sure, I never gave it much thought, but that fact that I would still forget which side the l or r trigger is on to push when prompted, coupled with the fact that I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember, is quite sad. Try and beat that!

I didn't realise Harley Quinn was a pun on the word 'harlequin' until about a year ago. Yeah.

I realised that Colonel Sanders was actually an image of the real founder of KFC only a little while ago.

I still can't beat your's though. That's astounding.

I know right, you can't fake that kind of talent. Also, I didn't know about the Harley Quinn name pun as Hazy mentioned either until this year. That might be a bit more forgivable though since I've rarely seen her name around.

Well, there's also that you probably rarely hear people use the term harlequin on a regular basis. When's the last time you heard someone talk about harlequins or use the word in a sentence? I think the last time I heard it was when I was on Kotaku being enlightened to Harley Quinn's name pun.

Same here with Harley Quinn - I don't think I've seen the name enough to understand that (there was Batman the animated series but I didn't know what "harlequin" was at that point).

I've had lots of obvious epiphanies, though. Mostly, because I've never ever thought about stuff. And then I would I'd find something amazingly, well, obvious about them that I hadn't really noticed. Can't think of any at the moment (happens way too often, so I tend to dismiss them quickly) but as a fictional example, I might think about, say, "xenophobe" and realise that it's composed of "xeno" and "phobe" which would be something like "alien" and "fear" in greek, so and then the alien world in HL is named Xen, so it mus share roots with it...so it seems the alien world is sort of called "alien".

Okay i got one .

I thought Tails , from sonic and tails, was a girl . I lived 21 years of my life thinking that tails was sonics secret female lover. And i have been known to say tails was a cute fox-girl . Never occured to me that in the SONIC 2 game manual they say that Tails is just a nickname and his real name is MILES .

But i will specify that i am not a Sonic fan nor a Furry.

And at the intro screen it says "Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower starring in:..."

And there are actually big neon signs in the background of Casino Night Zone that say both "Sonic" and "Miles".

But it's ok. :p
