Can't choose... both were wonderful games... OoT was one of the best variations of "Rescue the Princess" but MM explored new waters... OoT was longer, but MM had more side quests... I say that both games equalled out.

I bought both of these about a year ago for my N64 I had just purchased to play Perfect Dark for the first time. I found Ocarina good but a bit unoriginal, and MM a masterpiece that I loved playing. The time travel thing really made me think 'Why haven't any other games done this'. If Nintendo made a sequel I might buy a game for the Wii.

I think the length of Majora's Mask actually made it a better experience. It also scores highly for concept in my opinion.

And it's not as if it doesn't still come up better than most of the games made since it.

I like Majora's Mask better, as I've stated on other very similar topics and polls.

Honestly, the difference between these games is that, OoT feels like an adventure game with an epic quest to save hyrule, MM is more like your MMORPG with more quests then your ever going to do, but more like only 2% of the questing and instead replaces the rest of the 98% with an epic evil faced moon staring down at you 24/7.

Lets look at the major differences between MM and OoT

OoT has:

-Longer questline

MM has:

-Indepth town that doesn't feel like a card board cutout.
-Original development unlike usual Zelda games.
-A little less annoying vershon of your megaphoned fairy.
-A unique magic based on masks
-Intuitive and more challenging dungeons.

I cant think of anything else with OoT because MM does it better. The water dungeon was easily the most complicated dungeon MM had to offer. Most of you seem to think its just 4 dungeons, what about sneaking into the gerudo fortress? What about that dungeon.. oh damn what was its name? you know the dungeon were you get the song were you can make statues of yourself, they may not have been as long as the main dungeons but damn they were still complicated at points. As i remember it there were 8 dungeons in MM all varied in many ways.

As for OoT, the temples were just annoying, i think the forest temple was the hardest to navigate and the water temple was the hardest to remember were the hell you have and have NOT been, and the desert one was just very boring, however i must say that Master Quest variation made the dungeons much more fun and intuitive, a good bit of the time i didn't get how i was supposed to do it all.

The ability to make your sword much better in MM was fantastic(reminded me of a link to the past), they even added a giant sword you could obtain just for kicks as far as i can tell, i used to swing both at the enemy switching between giant bastard sword that must be heavier then Link mode were everything must die in two hits or i`m not killing them properly to shield and sword mode were i deflect every attack and tear everything to pieces when there stunned from a Deku nut.

A bit of a downer in MM though was the stupid final mask you could get that makes the end very easy, and if you combine that with the endless magic milk or just some green potions you destroy the games difficulty entirely, i once tried to win the final boss fight without that mask or upgrading my sword and it was a *****, i died 6 times trying, with the mask and magic i take two hits and its over before it gets fun, although its extremely difficult to get that mask.

OoT had for the most part, better boss fighting, "the end game fight REALLY got me going when the game took my master sword away for a moment" is what i would say if i didn't already prefer the bastard sword.

Also, finding hearts in MM was much harder and lot more enjoyable when you managed to figure out how to get to one after you find the right tool for the job.

EDIT: Oh, and in general i still like both games, its just MM is more to my preferences then OoT.

I thought everyone hated majoras mask, how is this even a debate?
That's actually incredibly incorrect. Majora's Mask has a small, hardcore fanbase, most of which is concentrated on these boards.

Majora's Mask, of course.

Ocarina of time, special nostalgia factor for me.

But Majora's Mask was still an amazing game.

Ocarina of Time was more challenging to me and was overall a more 'dramatic' game, I believe. I think Majora's Mask was more fun to play though, especially once you got the Goron mask and the infinite-magic-milk-thing. Then you were going places VERY fast.

If I had to choose, I'd go with Majora's Mask, simply because the Skull-Kid was a better antagonist than Gannondorf. Well, he wasn't, I just thought he was cooler; who didn't want that mask after seeing it on the 'Kid? It looked sweet...

Personally, I preferred MM. Why? Because no game has ever elicited so many raw emotions from me.
That's pretty much how I'd put. The Kafei and Anju side quest always pulls at my heart strings.

Plus the music on the final day when the moon's about to hit the ground sounds so dark and beautiful. It never stops giving me goosebumps.

Majora's Mask is best in my book, because it is so brilliantly different. It is not the classic story about the hero saving the princess and the kingdom from the wicked sorcerer. It is a more complex story, where the bad guy is a sad figure that has been left by his best friends, and gets obsessed by a mask with powers beyond his understanding.

MM is different in gameplay as well, with the masks and all. Although OoT is way superior when it comes to dungeons, the dungeons in MM are more interesting, and the battle against Goth is one of my favorites Zelda bosses ever.

Also, the side-quests sets MM apart. OoT has tons of side-quests, but they don't really make me care all that much. MM actually has stories to the side-quests and some of them are just breath-taking. I know this sounds like an exxageration, but when it comes to love stories, I think Anju and Kafei is even greater than Romeo and Juliet.

In many aspects, I think OoT is the best from an objective point of view while MM I find better from a subjective point of view. The dungeons in OoT are somewhat better, yet I find the dungeons in MM to be more interesting. The story in OoT don't really have any flaws, but the story in MM has so much more emotion. The music in OoT is better at its own, while the music in MM are so dark and adds so much emotion to the cutscenes and the story.

6 days is plenty of time to explore everything in Majoras Mask. [sub]Ha! lets see you pick up what Im trying to say[/sub]
OT:I preferred Majoras Mask more, it has so many darker undertones and it seems to suit a more mature audience.

This. Overall I liked everything in Majora's Mask more, but the time limit was one thing I hated in it.

I loved Ocarina of Time, although that may be because it was the first Zelda game I had ever played. Hence I wouldn't have deemed it unoriginal. I loved Hookshot-ing to various places, and the fight with Dark Link was probably the most memorable (if not FRUSTRATING) battle I had ever experienced. Plus riding Epona while shooting at Ghosts felt pretty epic.

I feel a little conflicted about Majora's Mask. On the one hand, I hated having the time limit, but on the other, the game just wouldn't have worked without it. While I was okay with going back in time to have everything reset, I kind of wish some things had stayed the same (like capturing the Bombers gang, I could never remember the secret code >.>). Furthermore, I didn't get to play as older Link, and hence felt a little weird. Although, Deity Link felt like playing as the Hero of Time =D.
Another reason for MM is that I could sympathise with the antagonist. He felt more human, (however ironic that may sound), a much more realistic character than the cackling Ganondorf.

Majora's Mask, everyone complained about the 3 day limit, but it wasn't even that bad, it only took about 1/2 to 1 full day to complete a whole dungeon

This is an incredibly hard decision, because the games dovetail together so well. As has been mentioned in this thread, where Ocarina focused on the land of Hyrule over the 2 time periods, Majora focused on the individuals of Termina, and they complement each other perfectly. As a game, Ocarina was the superior of the two masterpieces, and has yet to be bettered in my opinion. As an experience, however, Majora has that emotional kick from every single character in it that takes it above Ocarina (not that Ocarina isn't emotional, if you read into the ending it's probably one of the most emotionally charged finales ever). The coupling of the two games is actually quite beautiful, because it says different things to the player depending on what they want from a game.

Majora's Mask. The story is better, or at least more prevalent, and the characters are developed much more. There simply is loads more content in MM. Every location tends to have 2 or 3 different things to do depending on which sub plot you are doing. Some of those 50 heart pieces are really difficult to earn.

Key highlights are that you get to race around as a Goron, zip through the water as a Zora, and save a ranch from aliens.

In Ocarina you get to do horseback archery and find those damn gold spiders.

But to be fair MM gave us Tingle...so maybe a tie?

Would anyone enjoy a remake of these games if only for a graphical update?
Of course it would be forced on the Wii only....
Ontopic- I can't really decide. Both were excellent games in my opinion and too different to decide which was better.
