So I was sitting in the living room with my father just now, browsing the internet. I happened to come upon the TV Tropes page for Goodwin's Law [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitle7vljslfu]. I decided to start a conversation by reciting the law to him, from the page itself.

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."

He had a problem with it, but not anything even close to what I had been expecting; he stated that the wording of the formula was wrong, that it should be 1-1, not just 1. What's more, he completely missed the point behind the whole thing.

So, discussion time. Have you ever tried to introduce someone to something, only for them to react (positively or negatively) in a completely unexpected manner? Bonus points if they're extremely intelligent. Or dense.

Apologies Abound

EDIT: After reading the page, and having me give him two or three examples, Father's words were, "Now I get it! Fucking PETA and their fucking Natzi Tactics..."
