odd PS3 error. can anyone help?

this all started about a year ago with some DVD's but its now affecting the Sly Cooper Colection as well.

the error in question is that when i try too play DVDs the ps3 makes a sound like its loading em then goes onto a blank black screen and after a while it shuts down.

the Sly cooper Colletion does the same but only after i select one of the games from the first menu.

ive checked all the setting and i have no idea whats gone wrong with it so can anyone help with this?

yes but i changed all of the output setting when i did this.

try this
Make sure the system is off.
Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.
