I think the Shrink ray, Freeze ray and the devastator from Duke Nukem 3D are pretty weird and in the Devastator's case, VERY awesome.
The Hive Hand, TAU cannon and the Snark from Half-Life, as well as the Shock Roach and Spore Launcher from Half-Life: Opposing Force.
Although the Frying Pan from Conker's Bad Fur Day is by far my favorite.

Most old games have way better weapons than anything that's come out in the last decade.

Ha! I loved that weapon! Gave the term "bloodbath" a whole new meaning.

As for me, most of the weapons in the Ratchet and Clank series were out there, but so damn awesome. A gun that turns enemies into chickens? I want one.

Yes, I do think. Quite awesome indeed. But since you already said my idea, I'll have to think of another. Oh, I always got a kick out of Joachim from Shadow Hearts Covenant, who's weapon is various large random objects, such as a gym locker.
