Hey there, just wondering about something:

How many pages do you go back in the forums? There are 20 in all, how far do you go?

Truthfully I stick to the first 4 usually. Sometimes I go through all of them but that's getting rarer and rarer for me.

How about you?

I do believe we need to establish what constitutes it. If bringing up a thread from page 20 is necromancy, why are we shown page 20?

I tend not to post in the thread if it was started more than a week ago. That seems to be a safe measurement. I haven't seen anything official, but I've yet to get mod'd for it either.

I've never seen ANYONE get a smack-down from the mods for necro'ing a thread but yeah, better safe than sorry; I avoid doing it like the plague.

OT: I tend to just refresh the "Latest post" window on the front page. Once in a while I'll go past page 2 in the forum but it's usually to find a specific thread that I know is there.

Necroing is preferred to repeat threads. Our general policy is that if the post that necroed the thread is actually meaningful to the discussion (NOT bumps or spam) it's fine. Of course, the meaningfulness is proportional to the age of the necroed thread, if it's 5 years old it better be really damn meaningful.
OT: I generally just stay on the first one or two unless those aren't any interesting.

and from there I look for threads with 0 to 10 posts, and almost exclusively post in those.

I will go back through all the pages. Mainly because when I get bored, I start doing ratios in my head on how many times I've encountered that thread through just those 20 pages. No idea why I do that, but I just seem to. I also don't necro threads either, unless they are still relevant and a debate in thread can still continue.

You should graph it out sometime and prove how predictable OT can be

OT: For OTD, I stick to the first three pages, though for the most part, I check the 'Latest Threads' page.
