This is the thread for discussing all of the stories that will come out of Beijing 08, sporting or otherwise.

I'll start. The football got off to a start yesterday with Brazil and Argentina among the winners, while Australia played like they were being coached by Graham Arnold and were raped by Serbia. Yet, we still managed a draw.

Messi is going to toy with us....

Oh, and that $300M opening ceremony is on tonight, I'm actually looking forward to it which is a nice change.

Are any of you watching this thing, I don't know why but it's freaking me out, I can't watch it.

Personally, I really don't watch the Olympics for anything but the opening ceremony, and even then I usually skip past all the speaches and just watch the explosions and syncronized dancing. I know that makes me kind of shallow, but the Olympics hav very little appeal to me.

I feel the exact same way you do. I caught a bit of the opening ceremony earlier tonight, and it was quite pretty. But I doubt I'll watch a minute of any of the events.

Generally speaking, I find sports a boring waste of time for people too fat to play baseball themselves and too stupid to play a baseball simulation.

But sports that legitimize by omission a brutally maintained nepotistic plutocracy with rights-violation OCD? WHY THAT'S JUST AWESOME!

I pretty much see the Olympics is another corporate-controlled farce with yet another 'feel-good' cover story, this time being about international co-operation or some such.

If I want to play sport, I'll head down to the local oval and join a football team, thanks anyway.

I don't usually watch the Olympics-- but tonight some mates and I were really high and that happened to be on TV.

I must say, I was pretty excited when the Americans gave those cocky French cunts a beating in the men's relay swim. You could tell by the looks on those guys' faces that it was the happiest moment in their lives.
