I was recently clued in to the fact that it was a free TF2 weekend on Steam. I was happy, because I'd heard about this game a lot and hadn't gotten the chance to play. As soon as the download was up I jumped into a game with bots to see if I was alright, put them on normal, and...got demolished. I'm usually pretty good with games jumping in, but this one I'm getting *****-slapped.

So, any times when you guys were excited to try or do something, only to find out you utterly sucked at it?

Well, for TF2 the game's been alive for a good few years now; it's only natural that you're going to run into much more skilled players more often. I think there's several 'newbs only' servers you can find.

OT:When I rented Gears of War a while ago and tried the multiplayer, the game had already been out for a good few years so I did horribly. I accepted it and just tried to have as much fun as I could, but it's fairly difficult when you die damned early into the match.

Trust me man, the only way to play TF2 is too go up against actual players. Just keep at it, also, Bots are annoying, they have ability's far beyond the capabilities of (Some) players.

Anyways OT: Red Orchestra, I just don't have the right mindset for that game, and I always end up getting my dumbass killed.

This. So much so. I got it really late as it was, and even though I had mastered the singleplayer, when I finally got a Gold XBL membership and tried it online, I got whipped. I might have died about 20 times and got a grand total of one measly kill.

EDIT: More OT: Every time I try and play any RTS on a difficult setting above 'Noob', the reality of how poor I actually am at the genre mercilessly reveals itself.

The first time I played Supcom online I got my ass handed to me. Mainly because I was trying to use the same tactics I used against bots. Took me ages to finally get it right.

You'll lose it, but on the plus side, it's only 10 dollars.

For now, I thought it was on sale for half off during the weekend as well?

Competley, irrelevant.
If you get it now
Btw, why don't you join us in TF2 on the Escapist server tomorrow during the free weekend.

I find it amusing that this became a TF2 thread...kinda got off-topic. Y'all could've just PM'ed each other. It was amusing though. Um, back on topic, I'd say...um, singing on Rock Band. Me: "Oh this looks cool and I'm a decent singer"...turns out that I'm not. Then again, it was the Metallica demo disc that came with my Xbox magazine. At least I didn't buy it.

UFO: Enemy Unknown. Bloody Hell, I had no idea what to do. I was losing the game before I even shot down one UFO. I'd be playing it but when I finally managed to get my troops to investigate an anomaly, the game started running unplayably fast as it was running on XP.

I remember watching world cup fencing several years back and thinking "That looks easy" only to find out how disasterously wrong I was.

Why is it that most everything that appears to be easy is, in fact, extraordinarily difficult. Like those jerks that play pool professionally on TV.
