I know everybody on the escapist uses the word fuck and other profanity usually under anger or stress. In california they were trying to pass a resolution for a cuss-free week (from what i have read thus far it failed but im not sure)

The resolution carried no actual penalties for the use of profanity other than donating some loose change or a dollar into a jar that went to charity.

But i gotta ask is their nothing better for the government to do than try to tell us not to use an expletive when we are angry? since it carries no actual penalties it isn't infringing on freedom of speech but still...

Anyways whats your thoughts people of the escapist?

Here is a link to a vid and an article http://www.popcrunch.com/california-cuss-free-week-bans-profanity-throughout-state-for-7-days/

I also don't buy the ?The initiative is simply meant to promote greater harmony and connectedness,?

Yet another day that the PP (Paranoid Parents) win because those people who control shit needs to give in to the PP in order to be elected again. Isn't it enough with censored albums that beeps out 50% of the lyrics? Or is that just me?

I mean, have you heard Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil CENSORED? It's shit! Thanks for ruining spotify for me. The free version gives you no chance to evade the censored album.

Still, I'm glad it didn't reach to becoming a week.

Why not just sew everyones mouths shut and force us all who aren't already deaf to learn sign language.
Because you can make tons of rude sings with that.

ie. Rude finger, V sign.

That would sort of defeat the purpose.

It's so hard for crazed parents to be original now-a-days...

I'm glad I left California when I see this kind of shit, and the economy...

Haven't you seen Hot Fuzz? The Swear Jar FTW!

Anyway... not everybody. I don't swear, online or off. But you know, it's a generalization I guess...

Well it might promote greater literacy in the community....

People not being able to go back to a few words to express their discontent might increase the net vocabulary of the city..

But who really cares?

I'm all for the charity from the potty mouths, I guess, a la Demolition Man, but the minute someone proposes a bill to replace TP with 3 clam shells, I'm moving to Canada.

Sorry to use you as a subject, Naheal... but it was for a good movie.

OP: My thoughts on this? Chances are that you already read the earlier part of my post to get to this...
Well... I can't really see it making much difference. Just making people donate money to charity for expressing themselves. Only for one week? Pah, why not. Doesn't sound too bad. Well, that is if it is only for one week...

Eh, expected behavior from the Glorious Peoples Republic of California.

In protest, I shall now go watch the best of Tourettes Guy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wcKpoAQKj4] and take his teachings to heart.

It's a week, I mean I rarely swear ever, I have to be seriously annoyed or injured, I have the ability to insult and express anger in other ways than swearing, normally this goes over other peoples heads so I feel all superior too.

A week of no swearing for charity, nothing wrong with that, and considering most peoples attitude to language, they'll raise a good amount of money

I think after a week of this at my job I wouldn't have a pay check at the end of the week, but this is what happens when idiots run your job.

So what, a state-wide swear jar?...then there's defining what is an offensive word, obviously the major ones are there, but my response when someone starts swearing as an insult is usually "Stop it, you're being an ass" does that count?

Thats an awesome idea. A state wide swear jar. If they brought it here to Australia they would make millions.

I'm kinda glad for people feeling relaxed enough to think its ok to cuss freely all the time ,It makes spotting a dickhead a hell of a lot easier than when their were social strictures on the way people were expected to behave.

Why not just simply donate to charity? If everyone in the UK donated just 1 GBP into a single charity, that charity would get about 70m GBP. Not bad in my opinion.
