Alright well I just received in the mail a letter from the government of Quebec (I got a ticket in Quebec way back in October) and I was wondering if any of you could help me understand what it means and if I'm in any real danger (I don't live in Quebec) Anyways this is what it says.

(This is what concerns me the most so I won't put down the other stuff, the other stuff is just terms of payment)

Suspension of Driver's Licence

"If on ________you have not paid the total amount due or you have not entered into an agreement with the collection officer, the collection officer will send a notice of non-payment to the Societe de l'assurance automobile du Quebec (SAAQ). You will also have to pay the additional costs that apply of $ _________

This notice to the SAAQ results in penalties, including the suspension of your driver's licence, a prohibition from operating vehicles registered in your name and severe restrictions on your right to conduct transactions involving these vehicles.

Penalties ill be lifted only upon payment in full of the amount due, including the costs for the notice of non-payment of the fine."

Okay so what does this all mean?? Will i not be able to drive anywheres or just Quebec?

I would have paid when I got the ticket but I had no money then and I have no money now.

Pay your ticket by the new date or you'll lose your license. It's a pretty standard penalty. You'll also have to pay extra because you didn't pay within the first deadline.

Quebec likes to threaten but unless you have a Quebec licence .. there's SFA they can do ... And yes if you ever get caught for anything in Quebec again, it'll be there waiting for you, with interest.

Pretty sure it means if you don't pay the full amount by the deadline you will lose your license until it is paid. And yes, losing your license means you won't be able to drive anywhere. You kind of have to have a license to drive in the first place, no?

I think it also means you might have trouble buying/selling vehicles. Not sure what the 'prohibition from operating vehicles registered in your name' bit means.

It also says this as well

RETURN WITH YOUR PAYMENT

Then it says what I assume is some kind of address

So does that mean I have to go back to Quebec? Is that like the only way I can pay it is by going back?

Have you had experience with Quebec and tickets?

Couldn't you just send it via mail? Stick a check of the amount due and the form you have to return with the payment in an envelope then send it to the address.

Problem solved?

That just means that you have to send the letter back with your payment. You don't have to drive your ass all the way to Quebec, just send a letter.

"Return with your payment" is snail mail speak for "Send us a return letter with teh money enclosed." If it says that it may have provided you with an envelope where all you have to do is slap a stamp on it and send it on its way with the money inside. Otherwise that address provided is where you should send the payment.

Also do you by chance live in Canada, because if you're a US resident there's dick all they can do. (or rather will be to lazy to do) My advice, call someone and ask questions about the process. If it's a government letter a phone number should have been provided to call, if not there then on the ticket you were originally issued.

Ya but I'm on the otherside of the country, so they won't put much effort into it. If your right beside them, there may be some local agreements in place that you'll have to look up. But I doubt you'll have much to worry about unless you plan on going back.

Oh you better dont trust in that. Countries LOVE collecting fines and they are very unlikely to ignore this one because of a different postal code.
Especially counties near the border love their speeding tourists. (Friend of mine just got a lettre from his holiday in switzerland , he was 20 kph too fast. Cost of it about 1300 EUR yes thats about 1800 US-Dollar)
