Black Lagoon. It's really good! I loved cowboy bebop and this is pretty close to it in some ways.

Heroman

Made by Bones, the guys who did Eureuka 7 and Stan Lee ( I don't even need to explain). Follows the adventures of Joey Jones, who uses a giant robot powered by electricity to fight aliens, mad scientist, and disasters. Currently ongoing. Though it really isn't anything special, but the action and animation is good.

Now and Then, Here and there

I'm sort of biased, since I saw this first, but to hell with that Clannad, SHuffle, Air, bullcrap. I know your anime is sad, and I WON'T let you finish, but Now and Then, here and There is the saddest anime of all time. OF ALL TIME! It tells the tale of a boy named Shu, who follows a girl back in time to a place where water is scarce, and she being the key. Don't let the first episode fool you. It made me BAWL.

Arakawa Under the Bridge

The dumbest show I have ever seen, and I love it. It talks about a successful business man named Kou Ichiyama ( sp?)whose life was saved by a girl named Nino. Due to him having a MASSIVE phobia of paying favors to people, he decides to do anything to pay her back. Nino ask him to be her lover, and they start a life living under a bridge, with a bunch of other hobos and crazies, like a child who can kill you in 700 different ways, a war veteran who happens to be a nun, and a rock star hat wears a star mask on his head. Its hilarious! Also, it was oked for a second season.

Gantz

The manga is 50 times better, but the anime is good in its own way. It talks about a guy named kei Kurono who was hit and killed by a subway train along with his "freind" Masaru Kato. Rather than go to heaven or hell, they go to this room with a bunch of other dead people to fight aliens. Violence, Tits, and bawl your eyes moment filled fun!

High School of the Dead

Just started airing last week. on its second episode. About a guy named Takashi who teams up with others to fight a bunch of zombies that has infected his school. Their aren;t any super powers or anything. its in the vein of 20 Days/Weeks Later and pretty much anything made by George A. Romeo. I'd watch it if I were you.

Beck Mongolian Chop Squad

One of my favorites. About a guy named Koyuki who is bored with his high school existence who saves a dog named Beck. The owner of the Dog, named Ryosuke gives him a guitar and ask him to join his band ( Not right away though). A nice break from the break neck action.

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki

Probably not Ponyo, but Laputa, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service ( my favorite). This man is a genius.

and another one......gah, I forget what it's called! Gimme a sec to hit up youtube.....
Right, found it. Bokurano. I really loved it.
Bakemontegari(I don't know if I spelled that correctly)
and if you're looking for some high octane over the top fun, then I sugest watching Sengoku: Basara.

EDIT: I'm also watching a highschool romance called Amagami ss. it recently came out and so far it looks really good....but I'm starting to get a "School Days" vibe from it.

Hayate No Gotaku. It is really rather funny. But only in the subbed version.

The Dub loses some of it's charm.

try gantz, epic storyline, well-defined characters, hot girls, violence and gore, sex, what more could u want? (just dont watch the last 2 episodes they destroy the series)

or wolf's rain somewhat original although 4 recap episodes (3 in a row) is ridiculous

Le Chevalier D'Eon is actually pretty good if you can overlook the more...creepy...aspects of it (ie the whole "Woman-in-a-man's-body-taken-way-too-literally" thing)

Elfen Lied - Your more serious anime. Dark, depressing, overly violent, yet is one of my favorite animes. Wonderful plot, character developement, and atmosphere. Large violence and profound nudity earns it a 16+ rating. Thirteen episodes.

High School of the Undead - Basically more of a spoof, but very action-packed and funny. Follows the Max Brooks style - slow moving zombies with high strength and death only through the head. Pointless panty shots, revealing clothing and over-the-top "jiggling" puts it at a 14+ rating. Great party-breaker. Anime still being made.

Gunslinger Girl - Very nice anime to start with. It's sort of a secret government project story, if you like it. Slow-paced, but nice James-Bond style action. Mild violence and depressing situations earns it a 13+ rating. Two seasons, something like twenty six episodes.

I'm halfway through Black Cat, and I'm enjoying it. About 2 bounty hunters (one with a past with a very dangerous group, and a crazy dude who's in love with him and wants him to join his LETS TAKE OVER THE WORLD club) and a bioweapon in the form of a teenage girl called Eve. Good mix of action, story and bits of typical anime silliness.

Oh, and Trigun. Old, but still awesome.

Rurouni Kenshin.
About 90 Episodes and one of my favorite animes ever.
Its my favorite manga as well.

Baccano!.
i think 26 Episodes, im only a few in but im loving it.

Vandread.
26 Episode series, its a mix of Shonen Romance and Mecha.
It pulls it of really well.

And finally Gungrave.
Not sure how long it is, i know its less than 60 Episodes.
Its defiantly going to have a lot of shooting, and from what iv seen its really good.

I don't see the Cowboy Bebop movie on there.

WATCH THAT ONE!

You must also watch Akira, one of, if not the most popular anime movie ever.

As for series, Samurai Champloo is a 26 episode series made by the same guy that did Cowboy Bebop . It's about... well... Samurai...
Yeah, Samurai Champloo is a great recommendation.

Try Ouran High School Host Club [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouran_High_School_Host_Club] (also 26 episodes). It's mostly drama though, and few (if any) fighting/action scenes, but the humor is equite enjoyable.

Also, Outlaw Star (also 26 episodes).
