Quite recently I started listening and got addicted to the Beatles, I had known of them before hand but never listened but a day or two ago while discussing music in school a few ladies asked who were the Beatles...I was close to killing them, considering these guys were bigger than Jesus and they had never heard of them was rather upsetting, a few weeks earlier a few people asked who Winston Churchill and Stalin were and a number of other important historical figures.

So I ask you Escapists (or whatever you're called) do you know of any criminal lack of knowledge towards important people? Please post here so we may mock them.

Oh, it happened all the time last year in my History class at college.
not so much this year, though.
And I fail to remember details about it as well, unless I go and ask someone from my class.

Question: Age of perpetrators. Country of origin.

I fail at anything about the US >.<

Apart from where it is, and two or three states...

Lizzie Borden, the famous axe-murderer. I lived right down the street from her old house when I was in High School, adn when I mentioned this to someone online, they were like, 'who?'

Now I thought the Borden murders were nationally famous, possibly internationally. And since when I said 'mentioned' above I meant 'was bragging about', this kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

(Cue people telling me they have no idea who Lizzie Borden is. Go figure. :D)

And social security number, if applicable. And any children they might have.

Once in history we were asked who Hitlers *insert forgotten milatary term here* was. Since I had just watched that 'The Ultimate Showdown' thing a week ago, I said Mussolini as a joke...

It was right O-o But no one knew who he was 'cept me.

Also some people in my class didn't know who Ronald Reagan was Dx

Lots of my friends didn't know who Led Zeppelin, the Clash, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Beatles, Deep Purple, or any of the classic rock and punk bands were. I felt compelled to educate them and now they like them all. Bear in mind we were all 18 or 19 at the time and I thought it was ridiculous they'd survived that long.

Also, quite regularly my friends have no idea who's in charge of the country. Go us!!!

A girl in my flat at university didn't know... now this is a long list, set stupid shields to maximum:
Plants grow towards windows because of the light.
She wondered why the top half of her room was warmer than the bottom.
She asked me that "if the Chinese celebrate new year in feburary does that mean they celebrate xmas at a different time?"
The difference between 'dissolve' and 'melt'.
She thought our concrete patio slabs were wet because they 'absorbed the water from next doors patio'.
She thought Arnold Schwarzanegger(sp?) was the US president.
She thought ALL white swans were female and that the brown ones (cygnets, or baby swans if you like) were male.

I'm sure there are more, I just can't remember them at the moment.

I changed to a different one.
That one freaked some people out too much, so I changed back to this.
I can't go back to the Mandelbrot because I offered it to someone.
Darn those people.

People in my friends history class didn't know what a Kaiser was. That is depressing in my opinion. I even heard some couldn't name the FUCKING century the Civil war was in, much less the decade.

I was in Biology class and my teacher just finished a lecture about the ivory trade in Africa. This girl in class said "I'm never painting my nails with ivory white again" I laughed so loud I fell out of my chair was rolling around on the ground and was sent to the principals and given detention. Apparently she starting crying after I was sent to the office...

She was very hot but inhumanly dumb...
