At my school we've had a theme called "Climate". We have been divided into different groups that have been working with different subjects within the theme "Climate". I was in a group called "Another opinion", dealing with a very prominent skeptic of the theory of climate change. I myself am not a skeptic, nor a fanatical supporter, but decided that it could be a very interesting subject.
Sadly, people were mainly divided between skeptics and supporters, keen only to listen to their own opinions. On the last day we were going to have a "Climate Summit", where different groups of people would give their opinion on climate change (i.e. some represented the African countries, some the US government, you get the idea). I got together with some who were going to play a group of students coming from the future to warn us of the consequences of our acts today. Somehow, we decided to base our...err..thing on the skeptic's point of view. While I didn't agree with my fellow peers, I decided to make the best of it and came with a sarcastic view on the future. I won't tell the entire story (unless you really, really want it), but apparently no one understood it, as the skeptic's began clapping and the fanatical supporters looked as if I had just taken a shit on the last ten generations of their family. And then later I heard them mentioning me as "what and idiot"

And I thought I had been cured of my misanthropy.

Now, it wasn't a great story, but any idiot could have seen the sarcasm in it. My question is this: Have you ever felt completely, utterly misunderstood?

Yes, but it only happens in writing. I can get my ideas across verbally, but not though text.

The key too sarcasm is to go really over the top. That way, if anyone is offended for the wrong reason, they look stupid.

In university I had to preform a monolouge. I wrote it myself and it basically involved me being on stage in nothing but my underwear, while I made a few bad jokes. I even had a potato in my underwear that purposefully fell out near the end. Everyone thought it was hilarious, even the super christian girl I go to church with. However, one guy got really offended, thought I was showing off or making fun of guys with small units. It just shows how insecure he is about his...

I'm often misunderstood when I speak to people. I come across as a pessimist in some groups, arrogant in others, but I don't know I don't find myself either of those things. Usually its a person's first impression that is imprinted on any further actions you take so good luck trying to clear up the misunderstanding if you care enough. But to the length of posting your frustration on the boards, I have to say perhaps you do care.

At some level at least. I dont know the people, but it annoys when people slander you when you're in the same room.
