The fact they are growing functional reproductive organs doesn't seem like a great leap forward to you?

Hey, there are lots of cures for cancer - surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy...

They haven't been totally idle over the last few decades.

You are looking at the whole problem with cancer all wrong. It's not a single disease, it's a big group with diverse effects, reasons, and ways to treat them. There are breakthroughs all the time, but there will never be a cure for all cancers that some scientist just discovers.

Exactly.

Cancer isn't like a virus or bacteria (although it can be caused by said) - it's a cluster of mutated cells. The only way to 'cure' it is to destroy every single cell in the body, and start from scratch, without the mutagen. And of course, that's just not feasable. So we do the next best thing, and destroy only the cells that have already mutated.

You do realise that just because someone is a 'scientist' then that doesn't automatically mean they can switch between all forms of science don't you?

Stop sounding like a spoilt brat who sounds like he feels that 'scientists' are not doing their job well enough according to his own expectations. As purile as this response may sound: why don't you go and develop a cure for cancer? Since you seem to percieve the pursuits of some scientists as a waste of time.

Well, the logic seems obvious to me. A rabbit's ramrod would qualify as getting major wear and tear, so if a regrown one can stand up to that kind of abuse, think what kind of breasts they can regrow after a mastectomy. Or the facial tissue they can regrow after a dog attack.

Or, since we're having fun with this, think of the police time saved not having to search for the lost penis next time a John Wayne Bobbit event happens.

ugh.

science is branching off into an infinite number of different routes and pathways all with the intent of curing "cancer" as a whole.

and regrowing rabbit organs is a couple of steps away from doing the same for primates and humans, too.

We already have growing damaged tissue for cancer. It's called cancer.

What I'm disturbed by is the notion that "elective cosmetic surgery" will now give the equivalent of boob jobs to guys...

Massive facepalm. Because everyone knows all scientists are experts in cancer treatment as well as their personal specialty, right?

A: You don't cure cancer by regrowing anything.
B: There isn't Cancer; there's lung cancer, skin cancer, etc. Each of these will most probably require a different solution. Don't expect a golden bullet.

Not only that, but there are hundreds of different sub-types of each type of cancer (skin, lung, pancreatic, etc.), and each one reacts differently to chemo, radiation, and other drugs and hormones. Right now, there are some very good treatments for cancer, that can almost eliminate all cancerous cells from the body; but I doubt that we will ever have a "cure" for cancer. I think that more effective treatments are all that will ever be able to be done, mainly because of the highly complex nature of the disease.

Well the kind of person who asks that kind of question will only find out there is a "cure for cancer" when they see it on Fox news. Unless it was developed in a programme that Barack Obama pushed to get funded, then it will be "Horrifying paedo-pirate-rapist treatment that Ironically cures cancer".
