So I just saw this on Amazon.co.uk....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wii-Dummies-Kyle-Orland/dp/0470402970/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263756803&sr=8-2

A book that teaches you the basics of how to use a Nintendo Wii. The thing was DESIGNED for people with little to no experience of videogames. What the heck is the point?

And so, I dedicate this thread to asking the rest of you 'what is the most pointless item relating to videogames you have found?'

Well....

The world is full of suckers.

And there is a large group trying to capitalize on these beautiful minds.

And that's pretty much the deal with that...lol

Could be useful for all those senior citizen Wii addicts I hear about, I suppose.

Anyway, most pointless item relating to videogames. I hate to bring it back around to the Wii, but I feel this needs to be brought up; the plastic Wii Wheel. My brother bought two when he bought Mario Kart Wii, 'cause he didn't know any better. I never had to actually use one of these monstrosities until last Christmas, when there weren't enough GCN controllers to go around for everyone who wanted to play Mario Kart.

Seriously, have you tried using one of these things? It's a disaster. It somehow makes it even more difficult to steer using the Wiimote. And god, Rainbow Road...

As long as there are morons in the world, there will be people making money off them.

At first I thought it was a book that taught amateur game designers how to use the Wii to create games (THAT, at least, deserves a book or two), but then I read the description.

Learn to use the controllers, create a Mii, download new games, and more!

I remember once reading about an electric-shock feedback accessory for some console (I think it was the Gamecube). It apparently worked poorly and, instead of transmitting gentle shocks, cause severe muscle cramps and electrical burns.

And people payed $200 bucks for this thing.

You do the same thing I did when I got the NES. Read the Manual. Explains the basics, and you can figure it out from there. Need any more help, just read a guide online not pay for a bloody book.

My mom had a Wii for Christmas, from my dad. Now, I absolutely love it (at the risk of being flamed, I say SCREW YOU! to any and all Wii-haters out there). But it came bundled with two of the most useless and stupid periphrals I've ever seen for gaming. And I've seen the R.O.B. I refer, of course, to the 'tennis racket' and 'golf club' plastic add-ons that do absolutely nothing and look pretty stupid. So yeah. Top that.

Finally! A book that explains to purchasers of a console how to use the basic functions of that console. I've been unable to figure out how to connect my Wii to my television since I bought it two years ago, and I doubt I'd be able to figure out how to use it in any way even if I could perform this basic task. If only there was a book like that that came with the console. It would be so useful to have a manual containing some form of instructions. It's a shame that nothing ever comes packaged with one of those. If they did, that would make Wii for Dummies a thoroughly worthless mass of paper. People really should start making those.

There's a "Sex for Dummies" book out. No joke. Personally I would rather that dummies not have sex and run the risk of creating more dummies.

[small]Crap, where's that sarcasm punctuation again?[/small]

I'm just surprised you still had any faith left.

1. Wii isn't that hard to figure out.

2. If you are an individual who's too far out of touch with technology to figure it out, you're likely to have someone nearby who can help you (children, grandchildren, etc.)

This book is basically intended for the technologically backwards mysanthropes who wish to enrich their lives with a bit of casual gaming...
