Ive played through fallout and loved it, playing new vegas (or trying to until it crashes again), enjoying it but all the while im always hearing "Its oblivion with guns! Its oblivion with guns! Blaahhh!". My response of course was "well, didnt you like oblivion? thats good, then!" And continuing on my radioactive way....

But it finally wore on me. I actually want to play Morrowind...I mean Oblivion...wait, what, THERES TWO?

So which is it people? You failed to tell me theres two twin brothers named Oblivion and Morrowind! So which one is the good one? Should i play Oblivion or Morrowind, keeping in mind that I like fallout and a good game? And whats the difference?

Your explanation controls the fate of 70 hours of my life, people.

No poll because i want to hear the reason.

(i was going to play them a long time ago, but i said to myself "im not going to lose weeks of my life like that!" and then continued to lose them MGS, Fallout 3, minecraft....so whats another week, right?)

Thanks for the help!

Results-----------------------------------------

And the votes are in! The results are.....even. LOL cmon now. But it appears that Morrowind has the best story, the best and ugliest world to explore (daggerfall wasnt the question, lol) the best (and worst) combat, and the best STORY Many people would of suggested it, but said it did not age well.
I agree, but i play old pc games on occassion. Just finished and wrote a review on Call of Cthulhu, actually. I think i will try both, eventually, morrowind sounds like a deeper game, but for now the ACTION RPG melee fighting and viewable graphics of Oblivion sound better to me right now (with regret, you guys are making Oblivion sound boring and stupid and shallow, lol)and it got just as much votes. Maybe when im trapped inside because of snow in the winter, i will play an ACTUAL rpg with a better story like Morrowind. Ill remember what you guys said about it, dont worry. But, in the meantime, I still get to explore a beautiful world, which is what i wanted in the first place, and finally join this club everyone keeps talking about. Gets some "black bows" and listen to some patrick stewart reading me a story before i go to bed, have a little elf boy follow me around and call me a hero while someone glitches out and swims while walking.....
Thanks for the help everybody. See, Fallout isnt so bad. I went in for the guns and radiation, i walked out with the swords and magic horses.

Now to go download 9000 patches and modifications, apparently.....

dammit.....

Oblivion is built with the same engine as Fallout and (as a the sequel to Morrowind) was dumbed down quite a lot. Some chages were welcome, others not. I prefer Morrowind. The immersion is better, the feeling of getting lost in a mythical world is just great in Morrowind. While being much more complex (rather than a blade or blunt weapon stat, you have long sword, short sword, axes, spears, staffs, and more) it's more satisfying to play. Morrowind is cheap now, so get it and its two expansion packs, and if you don't like it then try Oblivion which is also quite cheap now.

I liked Oblivion better. Morrowind had the shittiest combat system ever (and don't tell me to mod it, because that doesn't change the fact that the vanilla game is shitty). If it's combat were better, it would be pretty cool. But the combat sucks just the same. So I would avoid it, but there's gonna be tons more people that'll say Morrowind was fucking awesome and that Oblivion sucks.

I found Oblivion to much less immersive, and much more boring.
I can see why people liked it, because, while I liked Morrowind, I can still see all the gripes with the combat system.

imo oblivion.

morrowind probably was amazing in its day, but the combat and everything else just has not aged...(once again imo)

oblivion is much more enjoyable in that sense, however its still a but rusty by todays standards, so dont go in expecting the vanilla game to be DA BOMBBBBBBBBBBBB.

the leveling system is different so make sure you understand and adjust to it, you can really abuse it if you do it right (why not?) so make sure to check into that.

overall, i really liked oblivion alot more than fallout, there is alot more incentive to be a melee player, plus who doesn't love looking badass in a full suit of armor running around shield and swording anything that moves?

the sneaking and agility are also ALOT better in oblivion than in fallout 3

so if you really pay attention, there are quite a few gameplay tactics that are alot more in depth and better than in fo3 , however dont expect much from the story (you loved fallout 3 so im assuming you dont care for stories in games) or the characters really as most of it is..on the same level as fallout 3, worse in some areas.

Morrowind was one of my favourite games of all time, hands down. Having said that I suspect it would be a very hard game to get into and enjoy now so many years after it's release.

Graphics and combat aside though Morrowind was an amazing game for allowing you to really try out almost any role you wanted to within it's world.

But Morrowind had a waaaaay more fun Magic system than Oblivion, there's just no competition there.

If you like story/quests/fun before graphics go Morrowind. Oblivion is cute and all, but Morrowind was just more fun, better story in my opinion, better expansions, A LOT more guilds and such.

Good on you for not listening to those idiots

Try being a mage, that's the way I had the most fun

Fallout is not Oblivion with guns and Fallout 3 was better then the point and click ones. I do not give a flying crap if you disagree with me, I along with many others are glad that point and click games have died out and there are massive differences to fallout and oblivion

Morrowind is better than Oblivion in everything except its combat and graphics. If you're accustomed to the having-everything-handed-to-you-style game play of Fallout 3, then going to Morrowind will be a hard break for you.

I think you'll like Oblivion better.

Well they aren't twin brothers for starters. Fallout and Oblivion are cousins and Morrowind is Oblivion's father. Morrowind is based off an old engine (if I'm not mistaken) and has a D&D combat system rather than the 'aim + hit = damage' system that Oblivion and Fallout use (I don't know the proper name).

I suggest you play Oblivion, but get it pre-owned because it drags when you hit the par... no. I'm just going to say that it starts to get a little irritating at a certain point in the main questline and that can throw you off. I'm up to that bit and haven't got past it yet, I just can't be bothered. But, I got a cheap deal so I didn't lose anything and I'm sure I'll pick it up again.

Oblivion from your past likes but Morrowind because It seems better (I'm only ten minutes in).

If you intend to play both, go with Morrowind first, then Oblivion. I only played bits of Morrowind when it was new and I liked it, so after playing Oblivion I tried to go back and see what I missed...And I absolutely hated it. Oblivion's combat system WILL spoil you to the point you'll give up on Morrowind within an hour or two.

Morrowind is the better game hands down. But it has not aged well. If you don't mind dated graphics and poor combat mechanics give it a go. Oblivion on the other hand is still looking good and if you have clocked up plenty of hours on Fallout III you will find it easily accessible. Imo it's just not as deep or immersive as Morrowind. I love them both.

My problem with Oblivion is how the monsters level with you. I dont have a problem with them leveling, but they end up being unbelievably stronger than you, meaning to even take down a simple zombie at level ~20 can take an unearthly amount of swings -- even with amazing weaponry.

Other than that -- and a few things that cut immersion (items floating an inch off tables once you touch one them) -- I would say play Oblivion. Not that Morrowind isnt amazing just the same.

Morrowind is better, but Oblivion plays and looks better.
However, I still much preferred the setting and quests in Morrowind.
